About the lesson
I have a passion for music and love seeing the confidence developing in other budding musicians. I aim to keep my lessons fun, whilst delivering the professional standard of tuition expected.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I can give tuition to pupils preparing for their GCSE and A Level Music exams. I teach Piano, Organ, Oboe, Clarinet and Music Theory all to Grade 8+ standard. I can also provide accompaniment for exams or concerts when required. As the Director of a church choir I am available to step in and direct/accompany choirs of all sizes and styles.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I gained my Bachelor of Music with Honours from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester in 2010. I also hold Grade 8 ABRSM certificates in Piano, Organ, Oboe, Clarinet, Music Theory and Practical Musicianship.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £12 for 30 minutes and £24 for an hour. An initial consultation lesson will be reduced to £10. I am happy to teach at home or travel to you, however an extra cost will incur for time and travel if you require me to come to you, which will depend on the distance I am required to travel.
- Where do you teach?
I am lucky to have 2 locations in Swindon to teach at. One is my home, and the other is my parents home, both in different parts of Swindon, which makes my services all the more approachable and flexible. I teach in Swindon, Marlborough and other surrounding villages in Wiltshire. I will not be able to travel further than a 30 minute drive to any destination, and any substantial distance will incur the travel fees mentioned above.
- When are you available?
I am available to teach Monday to Wednesday in Swindon, and Friday or Sunday in Marlborough. I will also teach through any school holidays, subject to pupils availability.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I don't believe there is any right or wrong age to start learning. My youngest pupil is 4, and my oldest is 78! I usually teach beginners up to Grade 8 standard, in any of my instruments - Piano, Organ, Oboe, Clarinet and Theory.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare my students for ABRSM Graded Exams, or GCSE/A Level exams - but that is not something you have to do!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Music is a language which speaks to the soul. If it is something you have always wanted to do, or have a young child wishing to learn a new instrument, please contact me! I can meet any requirements, whether it's exams, competitions or just plain fun! I do not have a rigid style of teaching and aim to be flexible according to the needs of each individual pupil. I hope to hear from you!

About Hannah
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have had many experiences of teaching, both as a peripatetic instrumental teacher, and also in a classroom environment.
I currently have a number of piano students at varying levels.
I am also a concert organist, and have performed recitals in the UK, but also in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne Cathedrals. I was (until Dec 2011) the Assistant to the Director of Music at Christ Church, Swindon for over 10 years, and have accompanied the choir on their many visits to some of the UK's finest cathedrals, including Salisbury, Gloucester, Worcester, Bristol and Christ Church, Oxford.
I am currently the Director of Music and Organist at St. Mary's church in Marlborough. During my time of study at the Royal Northern College of Music I won the prestigious Organ Recital Prize in 2008. After that I spent a year working at a private school in New Zealand (Wanganui Collegiate School) for 12 - 18 year olds. During this time, I was the chapel organist and assistant to the Director of Music. This involved working with GCSE and A Level equivalent students, teaching Piano and Theory in individual lessons, and a short time as a House Mistress.
My experience is very varied and caters for most musical needs!
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have been CRB checked and cleared due to working with young children. This is something I update regularly.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the tuition of Jeffrey Makinson and Darius Battiwalla. I received a number of master classes from wonderful organists such as Dame Gillian Weir, David Briggs and Jeremy Filsell. I also had piano tuition from some highly experienced tutors at the RNCM. I have been playing the piano for over 20 years, mostly under the tuition of Paul Turner, one of Swindon's most experienced and versatile piano teachers.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the ISM, and also a member of staff at Swindon Music Services.
