- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am very enthusiastic about music and hope that my students will take some of that enthusiasm with them at the end of every lesson. My lessons are fun and always varied. I have a very high exam success rate and very loyal students who have been coming to me for many years.
I believe learning the piano should give the student an all rounded musical education. Therefore my lessons usually include a certain amount of theory and history (of course not at the expense of the piano!) which I believe helps my students to understand what they are playing and to play it better.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I currently run Two Bees Music School with my husband, Alistair Bankier, which runs regular one and two day intensive Grade 5 Theory courses throughout the year. Cover everything you need to know to sit the exam in just one weekend, even if you have never done any music theory before!
I have over 15 years of experience in teaching children and adults, both piano and theory. All of my students who have taken ABRSM exams have achieved well deserved high scores. I have also worked with students with learning difficulties. My lessons are tailored to each individual student.
In 2010 I co-founded Cactus Music School, which ran, amongst other things, children's workshops during school holidays as well as regular adult evening classes. I have also been involved in community music projects in schools and a children's hospital both in Edinburgh and London.
I have also studied the Alexander Technique which has been used by actors and musicians for many years to help overcome habits of posture and thought processes.
