Hayley - Grove Park - Flute

Methodology

I am a highly experienced and enthusiastic flute teacher, fully committed to each of my pupils’ progress and enjoyment of their instrumental studies. I have six years experience working with students of all ages and abilities.

As a strong and well qualified performer, I have learned and developed successful techniques to achieve technical excellence on the flute. It is, however, crucial that a teacher not only has such skills but is able to communicate them clearly with their students. As an outgoing and empathetic person I know that my interpersonal skills are strong and that I am able to clearly advise my students and give them both positive and constructive feedback. Additionally, I keep a clear dialogue between myself and my students’ parents/ guardians and music school.

Experience

I am a professional flautist working in London. My time is spent both performing and teaching. I have six years experience of education, teaching both adults and children of all ages and abilities.

I completed an undergraduate degree in Music at the University of Nottingham, followed by a MMus degree in Flute Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. During my Masters I completed a module in Instrumental and Vocal Tuition where I studied a variety of teaching styles to suit the individual student. I put this into practice when helping my students achieve their goals, whether that be ABRSM exams, auditions or playing for leisure.

Testimonials:

‘Miss H Porter is a professional role model to our daughter. She motivates Haifa during flute sessions and stretches her ability using fun and stimulating methods. Having had Miss Porter for just over a year, our daughter Haifa is working towards passing her second graded ABRSM exam this year! Not to mention Miss porter’s enthusiastic approach in encouraging Haifa to apply for the school’s music scholarship which Haifa has successfully achieved- all thanks to Miss Porter’s continuous support and dedication in flute sessions and flute ensemble at school every week’ - Noora, Haifa’s mum

‘Hayley is a professional and enthusiastic flute teacher. My daughter, Rachel, was not enjoying her piano lessons so we reluctantly agreed to her trying out the flute for a term. The change in her attitude towards music was instant - she loves practicing at home, will often play our favourite pieces to us and her confidence when performing at class assemblies and at the more recent spring concert is amazing to see. This is all thanks to Hayley's infinite patience with a child that is very easily distracted and her constant encouragement to try to do better every week! We know that while Hayley may be teaching her how to play the flute, these lessons are also having a positive impact on the rest of her school day.’ - Nadine, Rachel’s mum

'My daughter had had several flute teachers before she began working with Hayley and it made a huge difference almost immediately when she started with her. Her confidence, achievement and progress have been great under Hayley’s guidance. Hayley has a wonderful way of encouraging and inspiring her to really want to do well. She was also very helpful when I was asking for advice on practising tips! My daughter tells me her lessons “fly by”. I would highly recommend Miss Porter and feel very grateful she is teaching my daughter how to play the flute.' - Tracy, Evie’s mum

‘Hayley is an enthusiastic and motivational flute teacher. She has provided a fun learning environment which has seen our daughter progress from no musical grounding to Grade 3 flute. Lessons are varied and Hayley is able to quickly identify areas that require extra attention and adapt teaching to build confidence.’ - Dave, Mabel’s dad

‘Hayley has been teaching my daughter since 2014. She is always cheerful, friendly and positive, and is a great communicator. Care has been taken to ensure that the theory keeps pace with the practical, and she is ambitious for both aspects, but always within realistic targets. I have seen my daughter go from strength to strength and I would not hesitate to recommend Hayley as an excellent teacher.” - Pauline, Xanthe’s mum

Hayley has been teaching my 7 year old daughter the flute for 6 months and every week I see Iris grow in confidence and ability thanks to Hayley's patience and understanding. Hayley makes the lessons fun and engaging which means that Iris is keen and interested to learn, but she also sets her clear goals to ensure that her technical ability improves each week. I couldn't be happier with our choice in flute teacher, and would always recommend Hayley. - Claire, Iris’ mum
