Head of Computer Science and ICT at successful over-subscribed school in West London


I tailor my classes to the student and course being taught. I regularly evaluate both my own and my staffs' teaching to ensure that we are using the most effective pedagogical strategies for our students for the best possible outcomes for all students. This may include visual, aural methods as well as utilising web and app based tools. For example, I find that teaching the Fetch-Decode-Execute cycle is best taught using an animation and Q&A so that students can follow the cycle as it proceeds through the registers and other components.


I am Head of Computer Science and ICT at a very successful school. I oversee and teach classes from KS3 to GCSE to A Level. I hold a BSC (Hons) Computer Science degree and have worked in industry, including IBM.

• Very strong computing subject knowledge – proficiency in several programming languages including Python, Java, JavaScript, Cobol, Pascal, Modula 2, Basic and Assembly code, encompassing all 3 major programming paradigms. Very strong subject knowledge also in Computer Science theory.
• Implementation of the School VLE and training of staff - extensive experience of liaising with and managing staff on a whole school level. Delivery of training workshops
• Digital Leaders programme – Set up a group of 6th form students to act as digital leaders to support staff within the school with newly introduced VLE, Web 2.0 and Electronic Voting Systems.
• Excellence as standard - Since my NQT year I have outperformed all other staff in terms of results, in the department including HODs and AH. Last year our first ever A2 Computing cohort (my class) achieved an ALPS of 2 as an example of this.
• Strategic IT steering committee – In the absence of the AH, contributed to decision to take regarding mobile technologies including presentation to governors and finance committee.
• Organised a trip to CERN for A2 Computing students. Added real value to the subjects taught in the subject by visiting the birthplace of the WWW and LHC. • Computer programming consultancy – Hackney borough requested consultancy on programming tasks for GCSE Computing coursework for all schools in the borough. I provided this remotely through phone calls, emails and resources as time would not allow my absence from school during a critical period.
• Leadership and direction of staff – experience of and confidence in managing and directing teams and individuals including senior members as well as NQTs.
• Academic Progression and Post 16 Transition – Included organising Easter revision school with external provider with a budget of £35k. Identifying students for university summer schools for STEM and facilitating and assisting in the application process. Universities included, Leeds, UCL, Kings and LSE (also organised a cohort for the LSE ACE programme) and several university open days. Film & TV workshops with the BFI and Goldsmiths Hall include some of the trips organised for students interested in relevant fields.
• Pastoral – Painstakingly comprehensive tutoring of personal statements for UCAS and advice on the application process. My tutor groups have on average double the rate of Russel group offers that that of the 6th form as a whole (36%). Self-defence awareness and martial arts classes.
