Product of a failing comprehensive school myself, I attended Oxford University, King's College (University of London) and Birkbeck College (University of London). M.Sc. qualified I have a degree in Biology and Physics and a higher degree in Computer Science. I am a qualified fitness instructor and worked in the City as a software developer and project manager. I have run three businesses, including a tuition company that had over 140 students in Haringey. Having recently relocated from Mexico City, I now live in KL - King's Lynn, not Kuala Lumpur! This allows me and my two young boys to be close to their grandma and grandpa and to watch Arsenal play occasionally... It is long overdue!
I can promise more laughter in my lessons than other tutors. (That's not a joke by the way !) - but I do think science is the single most relevant subject on the curriculum. It teaches us about the dangers / potential of AI, nanotechnological research into shape-shifting and immortality, global warming and planet colonisation, even time travel and the nature of things... In an age where the written word is losing its efficacy and mathematics can be done better by computers, science teachers need to discuss these moral questions and give students a curiosity and the tools to pass exams but also to have informed opinions. I can lift your Physics grades by 17% in two classes. Chemistry and Biology take slightly longer (there is more to learn - and I revisit material so you learn in the sessions). But this is just the vehicle. I want to inspire you to think about science. (Even if you hate it now! :)
Examiner, Head of Science (4 schools, including one that is a G12 world school) and Schoolteacher in 4 continents. Previously responsible for online learning at large Academy in UK, I am a specialist in using Teams, Zoom, XYlink and Skype. I have taught online, remotely, in China, New Zealand, Germany, Mexico and the UK to classes of students in schools . I have done 1-to-1 internationally. I have trained teachers in UK schools how to teach online. As a classroom practitioner I have delivered KS2, KS3, GCSE, iGCSE, A level, IB and prepared students for Cambridge international checkpoint tests. I have also tutored for 11-plus and Oxbridge entrance exams. A period of supply teaching in London schools meant that I have taught English, Maths, Science and IT in every type of school, from exclusive independent school to failing comprehensive; jewish, muslim, catholic schools; girls, boys, mixed and special needs schools; primary, secondary and sixth -form schools. (I can provide references for all of these!) The institution I went to as a child was shut down and I was literally the only boy to pass O level English but I went to Oxford. I wasn't that smart. My huge breadth of experience comes from my wish to find out how and why some students do well and others do not. Plus, as Helen Keller said: "life is an amazing adventure, or it is nothing!" :)
My rates are flexible. The quoted price is the minimum I have accepted in the last 12 months but my fees reflect schedule, ability to pay and need. I wish to help - please feel free to discuss in your free class.

9/19 – 5/21 Full-time teacher of Physics and General Science and Online Tutor, UK Academy.
During the period of lockdown I have taken responsibility for online learning through Teams for the whole Academy and have staged Inset by doing a Teams meeting for the staff. I taught classes of over 90 students. I have been supplementing my day job as a main scale teacher of Physics and Science with running an online tuition business. I have recently been delivering online lessons to schools in China via XYLink. In Qingdoa I have been teaching primary science to two Y4 classes. In Ningbo I have been teaching A level students Biology (Physics is my main my specialism). These have been OMO classes merged with an offline support teacher. In Shanghai I have been teaching pure online classes to students from different areas. I also tutor students individually in Berlin and the UK. Most recently I have also hosted classes in New Zealand and moved full-time into running my online business as a remote learning specialist.
9/18 – 8/19 Head of Science. (IB Physics, iGCSE and KS3 teaching responsibilities). Mexico City, Mexico
The Academy where I worked is generally regarded as the best International School in Mexico and as such, one of the best in Latin America. It is an IB world school with a global reputation. I have managed a large, very highly qualified and professional team through significant change in my short time, having produced a new KS3 SoW and Cloud-based file system for all departmental administration, tracking and pedagogical materials that I have produced and centralised. As well as being responsible for budgeting the three Key Stages, observations of colleagues as part of the performance management cycle, developing department development plans etc. I have been highly supportive of colleagues experiencing behaviour management and ill-health issues.
9/17 – 8/18 AS / A2 Level Physics teacher and iGCSE Science teacher. English College, Dubai UAE
Teacher of KS3 science, iGCSE Physics and A level Physics on a short-term contract. I supplemented my job with tuition.
12/16 – 8/17 AS / A2 Level Physics teacher and iGCSE Science teacher. Alexandria, Egypt.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience working with high performing students who, for example, achieved the best Applied Science grades in the world at iGCSE! Experience working in a predominantly Muslim, COBIS approved, international school with high achieving E2L students. Sadly, experience cut short because of the implications of the Alexandria bombing and other local terrorist atrocities.
12/14 – 12/16 Head of Science. (Physics and Biology teacher, Y10/11 tutor) Independent School, London
Oversaw transition to 100% of students entered for all 3 separate sciences. Implemented a new, individualised, practical skills programme and past paper revision programme for Y11’s. Obtained 100% passes at C – A* for first time in school’s history in Physics. Achieved best pass rate of all core subjects. Initiated introduction (and subsequent line management of) new staff. Wrote schemes of work for new Science curriculum and introduced new tracking and assessment system. Organised whole school activities like science week and managed year group trips. Was part of team that achieved an “Outstanding” inspection report from ISI. Own lessons internally assessed and graded as ‘Outstanding.’ Voted “most helpful” teacher by students!
9/12 - 9/14 A level Ma / Phys Jewish School, London
Voted by “The Times” newspaper as the UK’s best non-selective school for two years running- in part during this period of employment. Taught GCSE A level Physics and A level Advanced Mathematics as well as all three sciences and Maths at GCSE.
9/10 – 12/14 CEO / Owner, Learning Gym Ltd (tuition company)
Having a role of 130 students and employing 6 staff at its peak, my company (Learning Gym) provided students with limitless tuition at a fixed monthly rate, operating from rented offices in Haringey, London. The students ranged from 4 years old to 19 and were of all possible backgrounds, abilities and academic needs. Individualised programmes were written for the students which were based on online resources. Having declined the offer of very significant investment but for a 60% stake (and questionable future direction) in May, the business ceased trading in September and was closed, solvent, later in the year.
9/08 – 7/10 Various Teaching Roles, London
Taught GCSE English (West London Comp.), ICT (North London Comp.), Maths (Girls Comp – North London) as well as Physics, Chemistry and Biology in short-term contracts. Implemented individualised learning programme at a school in Tower Hamlets, London
1/06 – 8/08 Head of Science and Maths (Acting) Community School in Chatham. Kent
Initially employed as a Head of Science. Gained additional responsibility as a Head of Year 9 and for a period took over responsibility and rewriting of the curriculum for the Maths department. Supported school through its OFSTED inspection and was twice shortlisted by the governments fast-track to Head teachership “Future Leaders” programme. Relocated to London.
9/03 – 12/05 Grammar School, Chatham. Kent
Initially employed as a supply teacher. Taught AS/A2 level Physics within a Science department of 12 and oversaw the management of this area. A Science college, Physics was the only subject in the school to achieve a 100% GCSE pass rate over this period. “Outstanding” OFSTED inspection.
9/00 – 9/03 Fitness Professional, Personal Trainer and Company Director
A life-long passion for health and fitness caused me to pursue a career in the fitness industry. Became accredited by the American Council of Exercise, RCA (now OCR) and YMCA and taught up to 8 different classes a day. Built a personal training business. Established Jacks Dance and Fitness Studios Ltd which changed its name to Schizo Ltd as we started to utilise community centres and nightclubs to stage fitness events.
9/97 – 9/00 Project Manager & Software / Web Developer (Financial Markets). Strand, London
On-site experience in London, Milan and Frankfurt delivering software which managed pan-global retail offerings for the World’s leading banks. Co-wrote products which became industry standards for managing share offerings which included Deutsche Telecom 2, Orange Telecoms etc. Became project manager of Internet-based version, using cutting edge database and rapid development technologies.
9/94 – 7/97 Short-term teaching contracts. Islington / Hackney).
During this period, I built my experience as a classroom practitioner by working as a supply teacher. I was used by schools in 8 separate Ofsted inspections. I taught successfully in primary schools, single-sex- schools, academies, schools for children with special needs and faith schools of various descriptions. I covered GCSE, BTec. and IB courses and taught ‘A’ level Biology, Physics and tutored.
M. Sc. in Computing Science. University of London.
Whilst enjoying teaching, I felt it was important for me to have experience of an alternative career. I developed an interest in IT, from having collaborated with a friend on software. My initial intention was to be able to write educational software and my final project was a database application to support teachers with their administration in the classroom. This was written in C+.
9/92 – 7/94 Teacher of Physics and General Science. Mixed Comprehensive, London.
The largest secondary school in the country at the time, and my chosen destination to embark on a career in education, I was both stimulated and challenged by an environment where over 100 different languages were spoken and traumatised refugees were taught alongside high achieving students. Indeed, my personal tutee, Elizabeth, became the first girl from the school to study at Oxford. She studied Physics and I managed her application. I also introduced a “study guide” approach to teaching which helped tackle differentiation and was very well received. I subsequently delivered paid in-service training (Inset) for far more experienced teachers across London for the London Flexible Learning Network. Tutored privately in addition.
