High school graduate offering French lessons up to SQA Higher level Based in Glasgow

Methodology

I am willing to teach complete beginners of French and will start by teaching basic vocabulary and grammar. For example; asking for directions, avoir and être, numbers, colours and months. I will engage pupils in discussion-based activities as this is often one of the best ways to pick up another language. For non-beginners, I am able to work on improving the French accent and teaching more advanced vocabulary and grammar, such as conjugating verbs and using the correct punctuation.

Background

Hi, my name is Marianne and I have just finished high school. I achieved an A in SQA Higher French and am awaiting my Advanced Higher result (predicted A). I was accepted into four language courses at university and am going on to study MA Chinese and French this September. I am keen to share my enthusiasm for French with other people as it is a language which I have enjoyed learning from a young age.

I am a driven and focused school leaver with strong skills in languages and writing. I have studied a range of subjects which I have effectively balanced with attending night school and committing to my extra-curriculars. I have been volunteering at the Oxfam bookshop for over two years which has improved my people skills as I regularly interact with customers. Through my volunteering, I have found that I enjoy the contact with other people as well as helping in the back of the shop. I feel that I could bring my enthusiasm to a post in which I could use my skills and experience to help other people.

Work Experience and Voluntary Work
Oxfam Bookshop, Byres Road, January 2017 – present. Responsibilities included: pricing and organising books, interacting with customers, restocking shelves and sorting new items. Volunteering here has allowed me to interact with a range of people and has given me valuable experience of working in a bookshop. I have improved my organisational skills as I have learned how to sort and price items correctly and to manage my time effectively while completing tasks.

Robin House Children’s Hospice, Housekeeping team, March 2018 – present. Responsibilities included: general cleaning of the hospice (e.g. cleaning windows and hoovering). This has allowed me to create a clean environment for sick children and so has been highly rewarding.

Medic Insight Glasgow, 24th - 28th June 2018. Responsibilities included: shadowing doctors, participating in lectures and carrying out my own research. This has improved my skills in working with other people and learning independently as I was able to give feedback from my own research to my group.

Royal Scottish National Orchestra, 18-19th June 2018. Responsibilities included: helping with the sound and lights for the orchestra’s concert, setting up the venue and shadowing a meeting within the production team. This gave me an understanding of what kind of work is involved in production, as well as allowing me to speak with a range of people to improve my interpersonal skills.

Tea in the Street, August – November 2017. This was an intergenerational project within my school which involved working with those in the local community suffering from dementia. I was able to interact with people in my local community as I worked in a group to create a memory book for an elderly person.

Gallery of Modern Art, 27th - 30th September 2016. Responsibilities included: greeting customers at the front of house, helping to run a workshop for primary school children and filing paperwork. This allowed me to improve my skills in interacting with customers and to gain an understanding of what I might experience in a future job.

Volunteering is a big part of my life and the skills and experience I have gained from each volunteering commitment have been highly useful. I love to read and enjoy learning new languages, as well as creative writing. I am keen to share my enthusiasm for languages with other people and feel that teaching French would be a positive experience for myself and potential students.
