A key to learning and understanding is for the tutor/instructor to always use correct terminology so that concepts can be explained with absolute clarity. A student should never be left unclear about what the tutor is talking about.
Where possible, I like to put the student in the driver's seat with me acting as a guide rather than merely demonstrating. This helps to ensure that material is covered at a pace that suits the student and helps with subsequent retention of what has been learnt.
I would normally expect to run a tutoring session for about an hour.
I have run over 25 formal classroom training courses in SQL and DB2 Database Administration in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Wellington and several Mainframe Academy courses online. All courses included one-on-one mentoring during practical workshops.
