The most important feature of 1-to-1 online tuition is that it is bespoke. My lessons can be tuned completely to work best for each individual and, since my every day life revolves around Chemistry, they are not limited to recollection of my own A Levels. I have a genuine and thorough understanding of the subject, I'm a confident communicator and, in my lessons, difficult concepts will be clarified completely, working from first principles. I have found that taking the subject matter one small step further than required can make an enormous difference to understanding and with 1-to-1 lessons, we have plenty of time to consider topics in their entirety. I aim to make my lessons engaging and productive, whilst not hammering the student with questions upon questions. I can provide them with ample revision materials to take away and complete if they so choose (which they normally do anyway, to be honest). Since much of my day-to-day work revolves around Chemistry, I always make the time to answer queries and provide additional support outside of lessons; it's all in stride with my own research and responsibilities.
Having worked as an online tutor for around three years, I am a highly experienced Chemistry tutor for A level and IB students, with over 500 hours of tutorials completed. I have an honours degree in Chemistry from Queen's University Belfast, which is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland, and was recently awarded an Associate Membership with the RSC.
Currently, I am working on a PhD in Electrochemistry, researching new systems for renewable energy technologies. I also have an interest in working with plastics, using electrocatalysis to break down even the toughest polymers for efficient, clean recycling. A substantial part of a PhD involves teaching theory and practical work to undergraduates, which I find a very enjoyable part of my studies; it also has the advantage of improving my teaching skills as I move through my course. I adore my subject, and delight in the opportunity to share the most interesting scientific developments with my students. My area would probably translate best into "Green Chemistry" in the long run, a development of which I am very proud; it has a good mix of maths, organic and inorganic theory, which blends well with the current curricula of all exam boards at school and college-level.
