Guido is an Italian pianist, composer and researcher, winner of 'On Piano Creativity' Permanent International Contest and recognised for both his fine playing and his interesting compositions by such famous figures as Alexander Lonquich, Héctor Ulises Passarella, Rodion Shchedrin, Frederic Rzewski, Piero Rattalino and Yoshiko Okada.
His repertoire includes music from Bach to Ligeti as well as his own music (experimental works and innovative jazz arrangements), and also music composed by non-musicians through the Brainarm method, which is his main achievement in the musical research field.
Since 2016 he is an appointed juror of the WPTA International Piano Competition (member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation).
He studied at Conservatoire of Fermo then was awarded a scholarship in 2000; also studied in Conservatoire of Milan, Incontri col Maestro Academy of Imola and École de Musique Mozart in Bruxelles. Finally he graduated in 2006 from Fermo Conservatoire in piano (Mmus) and in compostion (Bmus).
He studied composition with Marco Di Bari, harmony, analysis and counterpoint with Fulvio Delli Pizzi, analysis with Michele Ignelzi, while his piano teachers have included Piero Rattalino, Enrico Belli, Fausto Bongelli and Donella Sabatini. In parallel he also attended piano masterclasses of such great masters as Alexander Lonquich, Boris Petrushansky, Jörg Demus, Franco Scala, Massimiliano Damerini, François-Joël Thiollier, Pierluigi Camicia and Giovanni Valentini; also Pier Narciso Masi and Alain Meunier for chamber music.
His performances in Italy and abroad made him collecting great success as a very communicative and charming musician.
In 1998 he has been the first pianist to perform in Italy Gyorgy Ligeti's works for two pianos.
He is passionate about improvisation and experimentation and has worked in genres ranging from contemporary music, modern jazz and ambient/psychedelic. These experiences have led him to develop his own style, which he terms "Narf", a kind of inside-impressionism characterized by minimal diatonic constructivism. An example of this is in his work Dentro, which is in the catalogues of Orléans Concours International de musique XX siècle.
Where Dentro is sacred inspired, delicate and suspended, the collection Prophandances is very colorful, rhythmical and iconoclastic, taking elements of acid-jazz to create a large form genre out of it.
Among his works are various ensemble and several piano solo pieces.
During the years 2002 to 2004 he took part to Alexander Lonquich's and Marco Di Stefano’s theatre companies, working as a pianist, improviser, composer and actor. In 2004 he wrote and performed some arrangements of famous songs of the early 1900 for the theatre Piccolo Re di Roma.
A complete musician with eclectic artistic personality but also an inventor and a researcher of new methods to teach as well as composition music systems, his formation is full of experiences with various oriental disciplines and philosophies before his definitive discovery of the first century Christianism.
He has taught piano, theory, composition, harmony, arrangement, counterpoint, improvisation in a number of music schools in Italy for approximately 15 years, developing and launching in 2008 a method he has called Analogic, which is focused on developing consciousness through music and tries to describes music through a development of symbols and archetypes, for application in composition, analysis and performance ("from inner-world to outward” is the motto he uses to define it in simple words). This type of approach led him to invent and develop a very helpful system of symbols he called PTS (Piano Tecnique Stenography), to assist pianists and students with approaching a piece of music and learning it without technical mistakes.
In 2012 as well as founding a school known as the Accademia Professionale di Musica, he started making public demonstrations of his Brainarm method, which gives non-musicians tools to compose high quality music without requiring that they have any prior knowledge of theory or technique.
Going against a common belief that it is only possible to compose good quality music once someone is already highly versed in theory and usually an extremely accomplished pianist, the Brainarm method is for anyone: a way of empowering everyone who wants to write music, no matter what their level of musical knowledge. Interestingly, despite taking advantage of the instrumental technique and the experience of the tutor, no influence comes from him during the composition process.
Freelance piano, theory, harmony, composition teacher and Brainarm tutor in London at Activeinmusic school (present) and Music of Life foundation (present), in Italy at Accademia Professionale di Musica (2011-2013), Lizard Academy (2010-2011), Universo Musica (2008-2010), Liceo Musicale 'Toscanini' (2008), Scuola di Musica 'J. Perfect! Guido is an excellent player and teacher. Very professional and knowledgeable. Look forward to having more lesssons!
It was a great pleasure to me to teach B reno tonight. His passion for music was evident to me since the very beginning!
Breno's music is delicate and dreamy. I am very much looking forward to seeing how his composition will evolve during the next lessons
As a mature returner to the piano (after a gap of more than twenty years), I was looking for an inspiring teacher who is also sensitive to my idiosyncrasies and bad habits acquired over time. I have to say that in Guido I have experienced an engaging, passionate and inspiring teacher. Not only is he an exceptional pianist, able to 'read' Chopin Etudes with artistry of the likes of some of the great Chopin interpreters, but also a teacher able to inspire through the use of imagery and description of how to shape a phrase or choreograph a hand movement to give the required effect. Further, as typically of a returning student of piano, I struggle with holding too much tension when playing. Guido is able to guide me through a process of altering my tone, relaxing my arms to play in such a way as to improve the sound I make. These subtleties were new to me and I am glad to find a teacher who inspires, expects great things and nurtures my playing while still able to motivate through discussing archetypes, energies and nuances.
Further, I have seen students before and after my lessons, from beginners to advanced sixth formers emerge from their lessons similarly enthused.
My son is nervous as he has lax ligaments and his hands don't always work the way he would like! Guido was patient, kind and very encouraging with my him, and although he didn't continue with piano as he favored the acoustic guitar, he enjoyed his lessons with Guido and I was very grateful to him for his time and patience. My son gained much needed confidence from Guido.
Guido is a great piano teacher. He has a lot of patience with children and adapts to the best learning approach depending on the child. An accomplished musician, he is also a great teacher for adults whatever their level."
We have known Guido for almost 2 years now. He is the tutor for my 9 year old son. Since Guido is himself a concert pianist he is able to take his students to a higher level of musicality and we believe we have seen the effect in our son. Our son performed a short piece in a concert. He is also patient, friendly and focused. My son passed his graded exam with distinction which we are very pleased and proud of."
I was looking for a new method to refine my approach to the piano and to compose.
His revolutionary method allowed me to create a piece, then successfully played during two concerts.
My satisfaction was great! His lessons opened a musical world that I ignored. Now I play regularly and have created about thirty pieces with such a self-confidence I've never had before.
I've hardly ever met such an upright and motivated person as M° Mallardi. His lectures have contributed to my mental health as well.
Mr Guido Mallardi has given piano and composition lessons to my two children aged 11 and 16 from 9/2012 to 7/2013. Thanks to his expertise my children have grown musically. He has applied successfully the Brainarm method created by himself so that my sons have composed some pieces that have been very appreciated when played at the concerts.
He stood out for his professionality, honesty, availability and punctuality. As parents we are really satisfied.
I had been looking for a tutor which faced composition from the beginning for quite some time, but I was doubting it would be possible to find one until I found Guido Mallardi and his modern method of study.
I am already composing my first piece... Ever since I started I am full of enthusiasm because I feel I have the right method to express my music fully!
You learn music with music!...
(READ FULL TESTIMONIAL ON http://metodo-brainarm.webnode.it/opinions/)
Up to the age of 20 years old, I never studied nor touched
a musical instrument before, and I saw the piano only as a great dream never to be accomplished... But now... after only 3 years,
thanks to this method and to a teacher able to bring out what you really are and all the music that you have within and that you didn't know you had because you never had a chance to realise, I can honestly say to have played pieces that have set great achievements.
The Brainarm method gives sound to the incessant rhythm of everyone's life. It allows self expression through a free, spontaneous and lawless flow of notes which in turn Guido organises into the traditional musical format. As a vase grants shape to space, Guido's sensitivity, intelligence and musical acumen transmutes our silence into music.
I composed a song in rhythm'n'blues style, of course with the help of the teacher Mallardi. However, the potential of this method was immediately obvious...
