All of my tutoring sessions are led and shaped by the needs of my individual students. Due to my extensive academic experience, I am able to provide assistance in a variety of areas. I offer sessions dedicated to academic skills, with a focus on improving your essay writing skills, research skills, critical reading skills and presentation skills. I can also provide sessions which focus on your acquisition and retention of knowledge in specific areas of your academic curriculum. My sessions are entirely determined by your specific needs.
I know that achieving academic excellence requires confidence and self-belief, which is why my methodological approach is centred on setting achievable goals and providing consistent encouragement and support, both inside and outside lesson time. I don't use jargon and I aim to make my lessons as straightforward and understandable as possible. I believe strongly in making sociology relatable and approachable and I achieve this through the use of up to date and contemporary examples as well as a variety of teaching materials and activities.
In my classes I will help you develop the academic skills necessary to achieve an excellent grade in sociology, by guiding your development of your sociological imagination. This will provide you with the skills necessary to tackle a variety of academic challenges throughout your university career and will ultimately develop your capacity to view and understand the world sociologically.

I am a professional academic tutor with extensive teaching experience in both higher education and the private sector. I possess a first class BA in Sociology and Cultural studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a distinction level MA in Sociology from the University of Essex. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Sociology at the University of Glasgow. The breadth and quality of my educational achievements are a strong indicator of my sociological and academic expertise.
Throughout the course of my 4 year PhD, I have obtained professional training in academic tutoring. I have led regular seminar sessions and lectures with undergraduate sociology students, and I have detailed knowledge and understanding of the undergraduate sociology curriculum. My role as a graduate teacher has also included grading student assignments, including essays and end of course dissertations. These experiences have further honed my academic skill set, and I am well equipped to offer guidance and help with all areas of your academic learning. I also have experience of delivering online seminars and lectures and have a good working knowledge of Zoom.
In addition to my academic credentials I am a fully qualified English language tutor with an 'A' grade Cambridge CELTA, and have taught students English from all over the world. My teacher training and previous experience as an EFL tutor has equipped me with practical teaching experience and know how, which I apply to all my teaching roles. My experience teaching English to students of various nationalities also means that I am sensitive so the specific needs of non-native English speaking students. I therefore understand myself to be particularly equipped to assist students for whom English is not a first language.
Finally, in addition to my academic credentials and teaching experience, I also have worked for several years as a freelance proof-reader, copy-editor and content writer. This professional experience demands an excellent understanding of English grammar and language, which further illustrates my skill set as an academic tutor.

Perfect! Anna, is an incredible tutor who has helped me with essay structure. I was struggling and she helped me understand the question. Despite me deciding last minute to reach out for help she still took time out of her day to help me. Her encouragement has helped me boost my confidence in my writing.
Essie reached out to me for some help with an upcoming University assignment. She has an excellent attitude to learning and was very receptive to my feedback. Together we were able to create a plan to strengthen her course assignment and I have no doubts that she will continue to do well in her studies in the future. I would be very happy to work with Essie again and would highly recommend her as a student to any future tutor.
Perfect! My daughter has been working with Anna as her distance-learning tutor for A-level sociology for over a month now and has had an excellent experience. Anna is organised, responsive, reliable and, above all, makes the sessions interesting and effective. Highly recommended!
I have been tutoring Neil's daughter for a month now in A-Level Sociology, and I have been greatly impressed by her mature attitude to learning. She arrives well-prepared for every class, is attentive throughout, and works hard on her assignments outside of class time. I consider myself very lucky to have such a conscientious and hardworking student.
