My name is James and I am kind, patient and engaging, with a real passion for the subjects I teach (I'm a bit of a nerd about them). My young age of 20 brings the boon of understanding exactly what a GCSE, A-Level or IB student will be feeling, as I was in their position only a few years prior. Having achieved an A* in History, with 2 A grades in Politics and Philosophy, I am more than qualified to educate students on exam technique, as well as content knowledge. How I teach is structured and acutely planned, with a phone call 1 week before the first lesson so that I can assemble a detailed strategy to help your child with a specific topic or technique. My first lesson is half price, as it will be more about establishing a plan to go forward and a gauge of the student's skill and current understanding. I can also work very flexible hours, doing longer and more frequent sessions as the exams approach! Above all else, I am really easy to get along with, and I genuinely love teaching people about the topics I love :)
I am an unconditional offer holder at the University of Exeter for Philosophy and History for September 2021. Over my 2 years of tutoring, I have taught 7 students in History, Philosophy and Politics. I have taught at GCSE, AS and A2 level for these subjects. Every single one of my students has had their grade increased by at least 1 tier (from a B to an A for example), with my finest hour being increasing a girl's grade up from a D at the end of Year 12 to an A at the end of Year 13.

Have known James for 5 years, I met him at Karate of all places, he taught me how to defend myself. When I was in Year 11 I was complaining to him at a session about GCSE History, and he offered to help me out for free. Over about 5 sessions, he completely revolutionised the way I tackled History and History papers, and I ended up with an A! He's engaging, kind, amusing and highly passionate about his subjects. I would 100% recommend him to anyone wishing to study History at GCSE or A-Level
