Dependant on the class size and ability of the individual, I range from outdoor learning to specifically targetting exam criteria and curriculum for excellence framework. In general, I take a learner-centred approach but can accommodate low tech information and high tech material. My long term teaching centres around improving individuals learning approach and developing their own research and recording ability.
I am based in Glasgow, I have 4 years of experience in Tutoring, mainly higher education learners, with a 6-month temporary experience of teaching primary and secondary age groups at the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre in a record-breaking year.
I have aided learners in Historical understanding both Scottish and World History, General Knowledge, I.T. Skills, Intermediate Maths & English and Essay Writing.
I am a Tutor with a postgraduate degree in History from the University of Glasgow. In both education and employment, I have highly developed skills in attention to detail and analysis. I helped my team at Culloden visitor centre reach another record-breaking year where I aided in the educational display of the Culloden story to thousands of visitors and several school groups.
I have developed my teaching and mentoring skills through my previous roles as an education officer and my current role as a tutor. I write presentations on cultural heritage and mythology and I have implemented and customised educational programmes for the Culloden visitor centre. Here I studied the highlights tours that some of the volunteers had developed and created my own, showcasing the artefacts and information points that I found most interesting and the connections between them that may not have been as clear.
I lead research groups in both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and founded a study group for English Medieval Manuscripts studies and Latin in my masters year and a presentation society for peer review of masters-level presentations in the humanities subjects. I also have experience of working with adults with learning differences in a 24-hour capacity. I would enjoy the potential to demonstrate my skills in a position that is aligned with them, that also provides great opportunities for personal and career development.
Excellent! Donald was a gem of a find who tailored sessions for my daughter at the last minute when she needed urgent help with her Nat 5 History exam format. His tutoring sessions equipped her with the skills and confidence she needed to complete the exam to the best of her ability.
Hollie is very capable of doing well in her exam and needs only to improve her approach to questions and the planning stage of her exam to greatly improve her score
Donald is a brilliant tutor. He's such a nice chap and He helped me a lot with my studies he really explained to me what I had to do. Would definitely recommend him!
Donald has helped my grandchildren with homework assignments. He has a very good rapport with them and explains in detail what they need to know.
