I love being a part of the learning experience for young people as they take on board information and process its often varied meanings. Believing it important to teach using a variety of methods to engage learners and prevent repetition when studying. For example, students who only write out or read flash cards to learn dates but instead as a tutor seek to nuance learning styles in a number of ways to help develop your child's historical knowledge. This could be the use of pictures and images to visualise the past or through auditory resources in addition to verbal learning through both speech and writing. This is with the aim to improve the individual's reading of documents to process key information about a time period to understand the related era. In processing, such information ideas can be effectively communicated in a logical and formatted manner. With this, a precise analysis is developed to gain marks in essays and exam papers to reach the higher levels. Listening to others patiently is a valuable skill I seek to emulate in my tutoring hoping to build a rapport with your child so they feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help to find a solution from a tutor who cares for the growth and success of students.
I also have a full clean UK driving license, own vehicle and over three years driving experience so am able to travel to your preferred teaching location.
I am keen to pass on my knowledge and passion for History and love all aspects of the past. I continually endeavour to learn more about new areas of history which are often overlooked. For example, my dissertation involved working with ancient writings as part of a study of sermons to examine the state of Christianity in 6th-century France. In this respect, I am confident in ancient historical periods as well as curriculum-based eras such as the Wars of the Roses, Tudors, British Empire and both World Wars. At a university level, I have also studied Ireland and specifically the role of women in its history, twentieth-century cities writing an extended essay on the historical accuracy of Charles Dickens, and recent eras such as France in the 1980s and 1990s, amongst others.
Beyond my passion for history, I also have a great deal of childcare experience. This summer I regularly childminded three primary school children aged 8-11 but also have experience caring for children as young as 5. As a childminder parents entrust me to care for their children both afterschool and during the holidays acting as their guardian illustrating my responsibility. Such a role brings its own challenges of disciplining children as well as a great deal of creativity in keeping children entertained while also learning and having fun. For example, making arts and crafts with a focus on numbers or shapes depending on their age or helping with bath and bedtime to create a routine. Looking after children in this regard has also kept me a well-rounded individual by remaining involved in all aspects of the current curriculum from helping with a science project to spelling tests during term time and being involved in hobbies during the holidays.
