Thank you for visiting my web page! I am an enthusiastic and approachable Cambridge graduate with over ten year's experience of teaching and examining history who would love to help you to achieve your potential.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I currently teach History at KS2, Key Stage 3 and IGCSE level online, and am an examiner for the Edexcel GCSE Modern World History paper. I am also happy to provide practice IGCSE/GCSE assignments and mark work/provide feedback for students requiring additional support for their IGCSE/GCSE studies, whether they are currently in school or being home-schooled.
Please note that I do not check or comment on GCSE/A Level coursework prior to it being submitted to your school or college for marking.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
My BA (Hons) degree in History was gained at Cambridge University, and was followed by a PGCE (Secondary History) at Manchester Metropolitan University. I obtained my MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies (specialising in the museum as a learning environment) at Manchester University.
- How much do you charge?
I am happy to arrange an initial half hour consultation for free, during which we can assess what which areas you need to focus on. After this, I charge £30.00 per hour for individual tuition at KS2/KS3 and GCSE/IGCSE level. Making and feedback only is also charged at £30.00 per hour. For long term assignments I am able to offer some discount on my usual fees.
- Where do you teach?
I teach online, via email, Skype or through the internet using my 'virtual classroom'.
- When are you available?
Please get in touch if you are interested in online tuition, or if you are the parent of a home-schooled student who would be interested in joining one of my online primary, KS3 or IGCSE groups which run throughout the school year.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I currently teach students of all abilities and ages from upper primary to retirement age! All are most welcome to get in touch and see what I can offer.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Currently, Common Entrance, GCSE, IGCSE and AS/A2 level History.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can assess and comment on your work via email, or use my 'virtual classroom' for a more 'conventional' lesson. I teach full IGCSE courses online for private candidates (e.g. home-schooled students) and am currently running bespoke online courses for small groups of primary and KS3 home schooled students. Please get in touch to discuss what would suit your needs.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you set your mind to it, you can do it!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I qualified as a teacher in 2001, and have since taught humanities in a comprehensive school in the north west of England and at an independent international school in Cyprus. After starting a family I wanted to work more flexibly and began teaching history from primary to IGCSE level for an online school based here in the UK, staying with them for three years. I am now an independent online teacher of history and RE and the Director of Net School, an online school providing tuition in all main UK curriculum subjects to home-schooled students both in the UK and abroad . I am also a GCSE History examiner for Edexcel.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have a current (E)CRB certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
As mentioned above, I trained for my PGCE (Secondary History) at Manchester Metropolitan University, which included placements in schools in Salford and Bolton.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
All of the A2 students I tutored for the summer 2012 exams achieved the grades they needed for their first choice universities. My online IGCSE group (home-schooled students whom I taught the full two-year course) all achieved A and A* grades in summer 2012.

• M.A., PGCE (Secondary History)
• Current (E)CRB certificate
I just wanted to say thanks for your tutorials, which I believe were always professionally but sensitively undertaken. I know he has found them helpful and I feel more reassured that some good revision has taken place.
Thank you for all your help over the last year! I couldn't have done it without you!
... he has thoroughly enjoyed your class and learned a lot from you. I am fully expecting him to take the love of history that you have helped instill into him into his adult life.
