I believe that to be an effective tutor it is vital to build up a rapport with the student and not appear condescending, as many teachers often do. While looking at the subject specifications and all of the requirements for completing a subject can be daunting, it is important to have a good understanding of what the exam board wants.
During my gap year, I volunteered at my old secondary school for a year where I gave essay and exam tutoring to A-level History and Government and Politics Students. I found it to be an extremely enjoyable experience and I was able to gain a real sense of pride from being able to help students with their work. Many of those who I helped tutor received very promising grades in their eventual A-level exams, which is something I am very proud of.
Hi! My name is Luke and I am an undergraduate studying History at the University of Leeds. In September, I will begin a Masters' in International Relations, also at the University of Leeds.
I am very willing and excited to tutor in History and Government and Politics, and will be able to focus on what the student requires; be it exam preparation, a broad overview of their subject content or a deeper dive on a particular subject.
I absolutely adore History and Politics, and I hope to convey some of my enthusiasm to the students, as there is nothing worse than a boring, uninterested tutor!
Regarding topics, my areas of expertise are Modern China, the Modern Middle East, The 'Golden Age' of Spain (1479-1598), and Contemporary British Political History (1951-2007)
