Tutoring 1-to-1 helps to build up excitement in a child's abilities as the attention is purely on them, which is why my sessions would be as such. Though I have never worked with children officially, I've always been good with them, because I treat them how I would have wanted to be treated as a child myself - with support and encouragement in anything they do.
Lessons would highly depend on the request of the parents and/or the child, for example if they desire to be better technically, the first lesson would be focused on how to shade with a pencil and how to see light in a photograph, as this helps with holding a pencil and learning about grip strength.
Or, if the child wished to learn about painting, I would first focus on colour theory and show how to mix paint without making it "muddy" both on a palette and on a canvas.
Patience and kindness is an important approach in teaching children; with gentle yet encouraging guidance a child will build the level of confidence to try anything they want to.
I am a 23yr old hobbyist artist and I love getting messy with paints, crafts and anything artistic. My qualifications are a Merit in Art & Design, alongside a good 10ish years of practicing art personally. I go where my ideas take me and work with: clays, papier mache, jewellery making, paints (acrylic and watercolour), pencils, charcoal, and anything else I can get my hands on. I almost always have at least 2 projects on the go and am enthusastic about teaching children about art. Art teachers were people I always looked up to as a child myself, though I never had one it would have definitely given me more confidence in my work.
First lesson will focus on learning about the child's abilities and what they wish to improve, then begin work on the improvements. It will help to build trust and help myself to understand how the child works with their art and their techniques, along with helping the child to confidently discuss their strengths and weaknesses.
Lessons after first will aim to help the child show visible improvement as well as increasingly believe in their skills as an artist. Confidence shows in their work, and as they explore the realm of art they can find more ways to express themselves, which in turn will help create more meaningful art they are proud of.
Lessons are £10/hr and may be bought in bulk to secure dates and times. There will be a cap of 2hrs per day to prevent disinterest for the child. Parental supervision and even inclusion is highly encouraged as parent and child can learn together and bond over creating art with the help of my guidance. Art is for everyone.
Jess is a wonderful, kind and passionate woman. She is extremely creative and all of her work is always to a brilliant standard. I have known Jess for many years and she has always been highly interested in anything artsy and has never been tasked with a challenge that she could not defeat! I strongly believe that anyone could learn something off Jess, regardless of their level of experience.
