I seek to customise my teaching style and the content of my lessons and tutorials to the demands of my students. I will discuss with students and parents (if applicable) any areas of particular interest or concern and agree a plan based on these discussions. I make my own teaching materials and these can be customised according to demand. I like to link course material to 'real world' applications.
For school pupils, I can run 'practical classes' in which experiments can be carried out using materials and equipment available in most kitchens. These classes will be dependent on parental consent, and details about the experiments will be discussed prior to the session, along with an explanation of any risks.
I graduated with a PhD in chemistry in 2018, and subsequently spent a year as a Teaching Fellow in synthetic chemistry where I supervised undergraduate students in organic and inorganic teaching labs, provided small group tutorials for first and second year students, and delivered lectures in aromatic chemistry to second year students. I designed my own teaching materials, including homework problems and lecture handouts. I thoroughly enjoyed this work and I received positive feedback from my students.
I was also involved in outreach activities for school pupils and I am also happy to provide tuition to A level and GCSE pupils.
Following my work as a teaching fellow, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in bioinorganic chemistry.
