My teaching method is to first of all help students appreciate the subject as I believe an interest helps to fuel understanding. I prioritise understanding over quantity so will ensure a student thoroughly understands a topic in a subject rather than racing through them. I am patient and believe that all questions or concerns about a subject are valid. In my sessions I encourage interaction and therefore will end every session with a “guided reflection” in which I will discuss with my tutee what they learned, have a conversation and ask questions in order to make sure they have understood what I have taught. Further, the guided reflection will include asking the tutee questions about what they liked about the session and what they think could be improved and/or what they would like to include in the next session. I believe doing this not only encourages the tutee to really think about the type of teaching that helps them learn best but also promotes tutoring as a two-way interaction rather than a one-way interaction where they feel they are just being talked at. Finally depending on the content, the tutee is looking to learn, I will provide practice questions and measure their progress by keeping track of the marks they get.
I am 2nd year Geography University Student with 2 and a half years of experience tutoring GCSE Religious Studies and A Level Theology, Philosophy and Ethics. I obtained an A* in GCSE Religious Studies and an A in A Level Theology and my tutees have gone on to achieve A*'s and A's as well.
I consider myself to befitting of the profile of a team leader. Organisation, responsibility and efficiency are qualities that I not only value, but I also feel I possess. This can be shown by my leadership roles in my school’s Model of United Nations Society and Debating Society. Both these roles involved organising various conferences, debating events as well as participating in them and often leading those involved. In addition, I was a Head of House and a Lower Sixth prefect which are roles centred around responsibility and leading. I was put up a year in school which involved me being organised and prepared to do extra work to ensure that I do not fall behind and so that I am considered equal to my fellow older peers. Furthermore, I enjoy challenge and am a firm believer in putting total commitment and effort into all work, familiar or unfamiliar.
