Methodology

I am a professional violist and music teacher based in Central London. I have about 10 years experience on teaching for all levels. I have 100% success rate for the ABRSM entries. I am patient and I help students achieve the result fast.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Violin and Viola from the beginner to the advanced level. Piano from the beginner to Grade 6 level. And all level on Music Theory and Musicianship. I also teach Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese, from the basic conversation level to the advanced level.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

MMus in Viola Advance Performance (Royal College of Music,London) PgDip in Viola Performance (Royal College of Music,London); MMus in Viola Performance (University of Southampton) and BA in Music (Hons) (TungHai University,Taiwan.)

- How much do you charge?

I charge £20/30 mins, £25/45 mins and £30/hour for viola,violin.

- Where do you teach?

I am basing in West Central London, Queensway area. I am very familiar with Putney, Kensington and Ealing areas. I am willing to travel to Central London, West London and South West London. In general, I travel to students' house but from time to time, students can have lesson at my place if necessary.

- When are you available?

My timetable is very flexible, please do contact me to find out and I am sure we can schedule the best time for each other.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

From age 5 and all levels from the beginner up to advanced level.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Most of them are preparing the ABRSM exam and audition for the music scholarship scholarship in the school applications. From time to time, I also prepare students for their GCSE music practical.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Music is hard but not as hard as you thought. Everyone can be good as long as we enjoy playing music and spend sometime to practice. So don't be afraid picking up any instrument no matter what ages you are. I am sure, it will be a lot of fun to work with you.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am a professional viola player. I have been performing in most of the important concert venues in London, such as Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Center and Cadogan Hall.I am also a qualified music teacher. I have been teaching Violin,Viola and Piano in all levels for over 10 years.I have experience teaching privately and schools. I used to be a violin/viola tutor in Merton Music Foundation, I am also the violin teacher in St Mary's RC School, the Priory school and Bishop Gilpin school in Wimbledon. I have brought kids through their ABRSM exmas with all levels and high marks with Merit or Distinction. Apart from teaching, I am still performing regularly with several symphony orchestras and chamber groups as a violist.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes. I have a valid CRB certificate with Enhanced Disclosure.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I was studied with Jonathan Barritt ( The Viola Principal, English Chamber Orchestra) in Royal College of Music, London. Stephan Wright ( The Viola Principal,Europe Chamber Orchestra) in University of Southampton. During my education period, I also received many master class from Simon Rowland-Jones and Lawrence Power

- Tell me about some of your current students.

My two youngest students are 5 years old, who is learning violin and piano respectively. They both enjoy their music lessons and very enthusiasm abour playing music, despite learning instruments being quite a challenge. My oldest student was a 65 years old lady, who was learning viola with me. She first thought it might be quite difficult for her, but we covered the difficulties and she really enjoys playing viola. Some of my students are in their Grade 7 and Grade 8 stage now and I have brought them through the previous exams and now they are building up a very high level confidence in playing the instruments and also leading the sections in their school orchestras.
