My teaching methodology is simple and practical as I prefer everyone to follow a particular method however everyone has the right to express themselves depending on what they feel in the moment. I keep an open mind and like to go with the flow.
I have always been creative from an early age and developed this further in school. I believe that everyone has a hidden talent. Unfortunately, art is not a subject that is encouraged in mainstream society as it is often looked down upon or we are conditioned into thinking that we have to be talented in order to be able to draw or paint. This is simply not true!
If you are willing to put in some time and invest in a good teacher then I believe that anything can be achieved.
My students are generally at a level where they can hardly draw, paint or have very little technical experience. However, they have a love or interest for art and the desire to learn.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual depending on their needs and level of experience. If I am teaching someone how to draw, I would start with the basics of how to hold the pencil, using your wrist and certain movements to create different lines and textures. We would start with a simple outline and then I show you how to apply these techniques in order to create a 3D image.
Painting is varied depending on the subject matter. I teach a variety of methods such as dry brush, colour wash, layering etc. We usually look at examples of artists and particular styles of art that inspire you so that you may, in time, apply these techniques and develop a style of your own.
I have diplomas in Graphic and Interior Design however my speciality is in fine art.
I have been teaching privately the last two years and love to work in small groups or on a one to one basis. My groups usually consist of up to six people which is generally a good number to be able to observe and go around and assist each person individually. I enjoy watching my students excel in their craft encouraging them to incorporate new and different techniques into their work.
Many of my students improve and develop their skills in a matter of weeks, however there are those who take a bit longer. Everyone works at their own pace and is lovely to watch them develop and improve as time goes by.
It is very satisfying for me and my students when they have created a work of art that they can admire and take home with them and feel proud of.
Lorren is a friendly, committed art teacher and is multi talented. She’s my second art teacher and so much better than my first one. She spends time in understanding your needs and gently pushes you forward. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
