About the lesson

I love programming and working with computers as much as I love teaching others to code. From making my first few games to participating in programming competitions in Spain, Switzerland and Hong Kong, and having a chance to work in world-renowned companies such as Amazon, J.P. Morgan and Skyscanner, I know that programming is what I want to do in the long term.

I seek to equip students with the necessary coding skills to not only do well in school, but to also be able to unleash their creative potential.

Before the sessions, I gather material about the previous/upcoming class in order to identify any difficult parts the student may have, and to also estimate how much time completion of tasks should take.

I always intend to make session student-led: for programming questions, I inspire the student to talk about their train of thought, what they think of the problem and how they would approach it, giving them hints and leading them on the correct path. I am very cautious about giving plain solutions without inspiring the student to think critically. For theory/bookwork questions, I follow a similar style where the student leads the conversation while I fill in the missing gaps.

For assessing progress, I would either check on the completion of class coursework, or attempt to solve problems from relevant exam papers. Although I know performing in class may be a top priority, I also seek to inspire the student to be creative and to make interesting things in their own time.

    1) Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

I first started using computers when I was 6 years old. I used to get in trouble for misconfiguring something on Windows - my biggest fear was breaking the computer so that it doesn't boot anymore. Having done that numerous times, I've learned how to fix problems like those myself (and many others that have happened in the years ahead) - I've ever since fallen in love with all things computer-related.

  • 02

    2) What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

I believe quantum computing will have a profound impact in the near future. While still in an infancy stage, I believe quantum computing will disrupt the world in security, machine learning and raw computation power, and will also be eventually added to the curriculum of most computations modules.

  • 03

    3) Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

I call myself a jack-of-all-trades: from website work in hackathons and professional life to machine leaning, AI and computer vision from my university years, I have touched most edges of the computing world, however I am always looking out for new challenges.

  • 04

    4) Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

My personal role model is George Hotz - he is a software hacker who's building his own platform for self-driving cars. Without any big corp in aiding him, he's set on his own goal in changing the world and he's been proceeding successfully day by day.

  • 05

    5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Computers are very dumb - they only ever do what you tell them to do.

  • 06

    6) What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

The big picture really is big and scary, however if we take it bit by bit we can actually make progress. Solving the first bit is the trickiest part, but after that every following bit gets easier.

  • 07

    7) What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

I am a huge progressive music fan - I've seen numerous bands live and I keep a collection of guitar picks that I get from gigs.

  • 08

    8) What makes you a Superprof in IT?

I am not much of a Superprof without my students - I truly enjoy helping others solve problems and develop their careers. I think in the end the contacts you make end up being the most valuable asset in your career.
