Jack - Notting Hill - Music Theory

Methodology

I want to teach saxophone and general musicianship simply because I love music. Having studied music at university I want to help nurture other aspiring musicians in a student-led environment.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Practical/Performance: Saxophones, Guitar, Vocal coaching.

Academic/Theory: Composition, Music Theory, Music (from young musicianship to GCSE and A level), English (up to GCSE).

- Tell me about your qualifications.

Academic:

I studied Music at Oxford University and received a First Class Honours in my BA. I graduated in 2010. My modules included History, Analysis, Composition, Orchestration, Film Music, The Beatles, Ethnomusicology and Musical Thought and Scholarship.

A Level - Music (A), English (A), Italian (A), Art (A)
AEA - English (Distinction)
GCSE - 10 A*s (one of the top 5 Edexcel marks for Music GCSE in the country)

Instrumental Qualifications:

Saxophone - Grade 8 Distinction (2007)
Singing - Grade 8 (2007)
Oboe - Grade 8 (2007)
Music Theory - Grade 8 (2007)

- How much do you charge?

£30 per hour

- Where do you teach?

I am currently unable to teach from home but am more than happy to travel to students' homes in London and Greater London to teach.

- When are you available?

My timetable is very variable, but I am generally free weekday afternoons and evenings and on weekends.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy to teach a broad range of ages and abilities.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I gained initial work experience as a classroom assistant and music teacher at St. Barnabas and St. Phillip's Primary School (2007), and have had experience teaching the saxophone whilst studying Music at Oxford.

Since graduating I have been a member of Blue Tutors, through which I have had experience teaching music academically.

As a saxophone player and musician I have practical experience through years of playing and study. I am currently persuing a career as a singer-songwriter and performer and I currently write and play in three bands: my own band project, Scarlett In The Wilderness (on soprano sax), and Alamakota (on soprano sax).

I have had experience singing as part of my Choral scholarship in the world-renowned Queen's College Choir, Oxford, and from singing in the international-award-winning a capella group Out of The Blue for two years.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I do not have a CRB certificate.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am a Level 3 member of Blue Tutors tutoring agency.
