James - Burtonwood - Support For Students With Dyspraxia

Methodology

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I am qualified to teach all brass instruments but I specialise in high brass.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied performance at the Royal Northern College of Music where my principal study was trumpet and cornet. I also studied composition and analysis during my degree. My PGCE was designed specifically for peripatetic music teachers and I have experienced teaching students of all ages from beginner to advanced level on all brass instruments.

- How much do you charge?

All lessons charged at a flat rate of £20.00 per hour.
30 minute lessons charged at £10.00 per hour.
Free consultation lesson available so both parties are happy with the arrangements.

- Where do you teach?

All teaching will take place at:
Brass Toff
80 Orford Lane
Warrington
WA2 7AF

I do not usually travel, however, special arrangements can be made.

- When are you available?

Saturday: 09.00-15.00
Holiday periods to be arranged individually.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All ages, all levels welcome.

Background

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have extensive experience in all types of musical ensemble from small chamber groups to full orchestras and brass bands. I regularly perform as a soloist, playing both trumpet and cornet solos. I am Composer in Resisdence with Bactiguard Wire Brass and regularly have pieces performed in concerts and competitions.

I have been peripatetic teaching since 2005 and after completing my PGCE in 2009 I now work as a classroom music teacher throughout the North West.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Full current CRB.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Royal Northern College of Music.
Studied under Richard Marshall, Roger Webster, John Miller, John Dickenson and Murry Gregg.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Full member of the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Currently two brothers working towards Grade 7 Trumpet using the Trinity Board, both showing excellent promise. I began teaching them both after Grade 5 and I am currently teaching the elder brother basic composition techniques. Flexibility in lessons has allowed me to keep both students motivated whilst covering the necessary teachnical jump between the grades.
