- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English Language, English Literature, Geography, History and Italian.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a 2:1 in Italian Studies from the University of Lancaster, an A-level in Geography (although I also studied it as a BA/BSc in my first year at University) and History, and GCSE in both English Language (although I consider that my time as a student of languages places me at a higher level) and Literature.
- How much do you charge?
My fees range from £18-22 per hour, depending on the subject and the level of teaching. I am prepared to include travel costs to neighbouring areas and negotiate discounts for groups.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to travel to students' homes, up to a distance of 10 miles from York.
- When are you available?
I am available at most times of the day, evenings and weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Ages 11-18, ESOL, GCSE and A-Level.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I like to know about my students' interests so that I can shape my teaching around them. If something is boring I will find a way of making it interesting, but I expect YOU to do the work. I am not interested in telling you the answers, but in giving you the skills to answer questions yourself.
- What kind of experience do you have?
As part of my year abroad scheme I taught English Language and Literature in a Secondary Institute outside of Florence, through the British Council, at varying ages, abilities and pedagogic aims (Istituti Tecnico, Classico, Linguistico and Scientifico), as well as work at a primary school in Scandicci, Florence and private students for Cambridge Foundation and First Certificates of English Proficiency. I have also helped invigilate exams through the British Institute in Florence.
During my Gap Year, I spent 3 months teaching English and Geography in a school in Darjeeling, India, involving an age range from 5-18.
My degree scheme included a wide range of disciplines from History to Literature, my dissertation being based on the former - a history of architecture in the North-East of Italy.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have 2 CRB checks from Disclosure - one from 19/08/20(concealed information)6513, another 20/08/20(concealed information)6311
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently run an extra curricular activity in some schools in York for a Film Making course (Please enquire), which received a very enthusiastic reception and has produced some fantastic results. Students have been able to use the things I have taught them to write, produce and direct their own short films.
