About the lesson
I am an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music in London doing a Bachelor of Music degree in piano. I find teaching a tremendously gratifying experience and I try to help all my pupils as much as I can.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, music theory and composition.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have just completed my first year BMus degree with a First in all subjects. I also achieved very good A levels including: Music (A*), Spanish (A*), French (A), Italian (A) and Music Technology at AS (A). I also have the Certificate of Proficiency in English (B).
- How much do you charge?
My standard fee is £30 an hour, but it depends on how far I need to travel! Group lessons are only possible for music theory and I charge £18 per student.
- Where do you teach?
I go to students' houses and I can also teach at home. Easiest locations are South Kensington, Acton and the places in between (Notting Hill, Shepherds Bush, Holland Park, Hammersmith...).
- When are you available?
I am very flexible. I am usually freer in the afternoons (during the week) and all day long at weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children as well as adults. Piano ranges from Beginner to Advanced (Grade 8 +). Composition, Musicianship (Aural & Harmony) and Music Theory range from Beginner to Advanced (Grade 8 or preparation for A-Level, University Entries).
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Piano Grades 1-8 (ABRSM), Music Theory Grades 1-8 (ABRSM), Music GSCE, Music A-Level
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Do not be daunted by the prospect of starting, picking up again or improving your musical skills! It is hard work but it always pays off!

About Joaquim
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring privately for a year as well as leading many outreach projects in schools, homes for the elderly (Alzheimer's specialised), and schools for children with autism and Downes syndrome.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Christopher is a professional music producer, but with very little knowledge of classical music theory. He came to me about 6 months ago and asked to teach him the theory basics and some piano skills. He has repeatedly said that since he's started playing a bit of piano and coming to terms with the tonal system, he's felt an improvement in his own work, which is mainly electronic music. Conrad is a 7-year-old boy who is a very talented musician. He has just started piano and has done incredibly well in his Grade 1 exam. We have covered the syllabus in very little time and are now working towards Grade 2.
