Hi, thanks for checking out my profile. I am a very experienced and patient tutor and particularly enjoy teaching beginners as I can still remember what it was like!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Acoustic, electric and classical guitar. This includes every style you can think of including rock, pop, funk, blues, jazz, fingerstyle, and help with making scales and theory work for you.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Studied at the Guitar Institute in London during 1989 and 1990.
- How much do you charge?
Lesson prices vary depending on length but a 1hr session costs £25 for beginners and intermediate students. I also do 20,30 and 45min lessons starting at only £10.
In addition to 1-to-1 lessons I also offer paired lessons should you want to learn with a friend. These cost £35 per hour.
Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons with their children.
Due to a fairly hectic schedule I don't offer lessons at students' homes but this helps to keep the cost down for you!
- Where do you teach?
At my studio in Croydon, Surrey.
I am within easy travelling distance of Woodside, Shirley, West Wickham, Beckenham, Bromley, Penge, Thornton Heath, Crystal Palace, Norwood.
I am also only 5-10min walk from East Croydon station and on the 197,312,410,289 and 357 bus routes.
- When are you available?
Private lessons are from Mon-Fri evenings from 4-9.30pm and Tuesday daytimes.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I start teaching at age 5-6 and teach all levels from beginner to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
On the eIectric guitar side, I can prepare students for Rockschool or RGT exams.
For acoustic students I can prepare you for Trinity or RGT acoustic grades.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Whatever level you are at, you will find me to be an enthusiastic and encouraging teacher who will listen to your own goals and help you achieve whatever they may be.
- What kind of experience do you have?
A lot! I have been playing guitar for 25 years and have had the opportunity to play with some truly amazing musicians in that time. Before starting to teach professionally (over 7 years ago) I taught on a semi-professional basis for 4 years and now have my own purpose built, air conditioned teaching studio at my home which is a short walk from East Croydon station.
In my time as a professional tutor, I have taught all kinds of students from school children to award winning composers and most points in between.
In addition to teaching privately I am also the resident guitar tutor at City of London Freemens School in Ashstead Park. I also work as a session musician and gig on a regular basis.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. My most recent CRB certificate is from City of London Freemens School.
- Where and with whom did you train?
During 1989 and 1990 I studied at what then was the newly opened Guitar Institute in West London. In addition to the standard cirriculum at the time I took specialist classes in rhythm guitar techniques and sight reading. I had the opportunity to train under some great players such as Shaun Baxter, Iain Scott and John Etheridge.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment I am teaching a very wide range of pupils from very young children just starting out with the guitar to 'A' level music students and some very determined adult learners. At the moment that includes teaching everything from Bach to Bloc Party and most points in between.
