Jose Bernardez (BMus, PGDip, MA) - Saxophone Lessons in London - "Striving to enforce traditional musical concepts through the use of contemporary music."

Any student has the ability to succeed, we all are potentially good at music. After all music is a form of expressing ourselves, and we all have something to say. It is my job as their teacher to set the expectations high; higher than the student may think they can achieve at first. Whether or not the student actually achieves the expectation at face value is not the point. The journey to reach those heights is how the student truly discovers their musical expression, their art and themselves, while learning the technique necessary to master the instrument. I provide the student with every bit of information that I can to guide them through their journey.

I believe in creating a safe and enthusiastic environment for my students to explore their music.

Whatever your reason for learning Music, go for it! You’ll contribute to a better world.

Jose's CV

2011 – present
Saxophone Lessons with Holland Park Tutors and Greater London Tutors (Full-Time)
• Through working in the spotlight of the high standards of two highly-valued tutoring companies, I am always aware of the standard I am setting in my private lessons – I believe I have a patient but passionate and professional
approach to musical education.

2009 – present
Freelance Saxophone Tuition (Full-Time) based at 48 Great Marlborough St. (Studio)
• For me, the greatest responsibilities of working freelance are self-motivation and enthusiasm. Working freelance has taught me to expand my creative boundaries in constructing different types of learning environments that are unique to each individual, depending on their age, background and personality.

Session Musician for the Royal College of Music (Part-Time)
• My role at the College (and also at the Academy) was to participate in the composition workshops, by working with aspiring composers to give feedback on the playability of their compositions. I believe this interaction relies on essential communication skills, adapting to the age and musical level of each student individually – something that I value in my teaching method.

2009 – 2011
Visiting Saxophone Professor & Session Musician for the Royal Academy of Music (Part-Time)
• As a visiting Professor at the Junior Royal Academy of Music
o Working one-on-one with children and teenagers and being able to relate to their level of musicianship and
maturity were two of many skills I developed in my time here, and which I have used ever since throughout my career. Additionally, being a part of a British school system has exposed me to the standards and styles of a UK-institution.

• As a studio musician
o As a studio musician, I had to ensure I was always able to cope under pressure, whilst being organised and
punctual. As an experienced musician and educator, I will ensure these important traits are nurtured and developed in any future student that comes under my wing.

2003 – 2007
Head of Woodwind Department and Saxophone Teacher at Jaume Albertí School of Music, Majorca, Spain (Full-Time)
• Conducting, running, and organising timetables for all major orchestras, smaller ensembles, and wind bands ranging from 12 – 40+ players, aged 11 - 18+ 5 days of the week.
o I believe that I possessed a very high level of organisation and enthusiasm to inspire young minds, which were essential for this role. These, alongside my excellent musician skills, were key forces to motivate the children into achieving their maximum potential.
• Leading and running the nationally renowned summer course, open for 1 week yearly.
o The main responsibilities for this role involved contacting and timetabling the visiting professors to ensure
the attending students had the most educational and enriching learning experience for the week they took part in. It was a pleasure to see the confidence and maturity that the children taking part in gained during this one short week, and many often went on to join us full-time.
