With 35 years' teaching and editing experience, I have the expertise to help clients express themselves clearly and confidently in English.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in editing writing by people whose first language is not English, or who lack confidence in writing. My clients include MA and PhD students who want to produce a well-written dissertation or thesis. I also work with professionals in any field who need to communicate effectively. My service involves not only the correction of spelling, punctuation and grammar, but, more importantly, in-depth work with clients to make their writing intelligible and precise.
I work with students and professionals who have a specific aim in mind, such as developing and using language for academic, professional or technical presentations.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Following my MA in English Literature from the University of Oxford, I obtained a PGCE at the University of Manchester, and an RSA Diploma in TEFL. I was later awarded a Teaching Certificate in the Alexander Technique, and most recently an MA in Applied Linguistics.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £30 an hour for teaching and editing.
My minimum charge for editing is £30, but the final cost depends on the quality of writing submitted. In my experience, most clients want me to help them produce a text that is accurate, easy to read and understand, and fit for purpose. For this reason I provide a free reading and estimate, so that I can give a clear idea of the work involved.
I also offer support throughout the final year of a university course. This includes 20 contact hours a term, and revision of written work. P.O.A.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I teach and edit online using a combination of editing software, messaging and Skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I will help you clarify your aims, and develop the language and self-esteem necessary to achieve those aims.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have many years' experience of teaching language and reading development one-to-one and in groups. I have taught EFL in schools and companies in the UK, Asia and Latin America. I have also prepared materials, policies and models of good practice in schools.
For the last 17 years I have travelled internationally as an examiner of spoken English, and worked as a freelance editor and teacher.

I want to express my appreciation for the tremendous job you did proofreading my technical reports on telecommunication.
One of your strengths is that you are available at a moment's notice, so I don't need to panic when meeting report deadlines. It is a pleasure working with you.
You have a warm personal approach, and do your job very well. I hope to be able to use your help again, and I can highly recommend your proofreading services to anyone who needs your professional support.
I appreciated your help during this exam period. You are efficient and supportive. It was good to receive your clarifications. I came up with a very satisfactory translation inspired by your explanation! I also found your comments penetrating and to the point, which was very helpful for a smoother translation
My son. finds it very difficult to work with people he does not know due to his Asperger Syndrome. However Judith was extremely understanding and quickly built up a good working relationship with him as he began the process of getting his Asperger Syndrome diagnosis.
Without Judith's help and support I do not believe my son would have gained his C grade GCSE.
