One-to-one at my home. Lessons are tailored to the needs of the students, after an informal assessment. Quite often a child only needs a few booster lessons. Recent clients include a 10-year-old struggling with handwriting - 3 lessons and he finally received his pen licence. Others have had up to ten lessons on writing essays or comprehension skills to prepare for independent school entrance. Others have been with me for some time. Children with dyslexia and other learning difficulties often suffer low-esteem, so I work hard to build their confidence. I encourage children to learn to touchtype, via the online programmes recommended by the Dyslexia Association, as this always improves their spelling and response times.
I always start with a free consultation with the student and parent/s.

I’ve been a private tutor for many years, before, during and after my 20+ years of English-teaching at post-16 colleges and university. I've tutored all ages from KS2 to adult, and all levels from basic literacy to undergraduate. I've worked with a young man who suffered brain injuries and had to learn to read all over again; helped several dyslexic students towards a pass grade at GCSE; supported a sight-impaired, dyslexic teenager; boosted several younger children (8, 9, 10 years) who needed a few weeks of focused attention to their handwriting, spelling, punctuation, reading and so on.
