- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English as a Foreign Language from beginners to advanced, and I teach Business English and Psychology as well. I also provide Speech Training sessions to improve pronunciation.
I also provide life coaching and career coaching.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
In terms of Psychology have an honours degree in Psychology (2:1), from a course approved by the British Psychological Society. I also have a Master's Degree in Occupational Psychology.
For EFL teaching, I also have a Trinity (Cert) TESOL qualification.
For coaching, I have a Certificate in Coaching from the Centre for Coaching and Stress Management, and I am awaiting certification in Stress Management. I have further qualifications in Psychometric Testing (Level A and B Intermediate Plus Competence in Occupational testing) meaning that I am qualified to administer and interpret some tests of ability, personality and preferences. These may be relevant to coaching clients.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 for teaching, and £30 for life coaching. For proof reading, it is £25 per hour, which includes proof reading/online discussion.
There is no extra charge for travel within three miles, and after this an additional fee may apply.
- Where do you teach?
I am able to teach in the student's home, online and in neutral areas such as cafes in York, Harrogate or Leeds. Some sessions at my own home may also be possible, which is situated near York City Centre and close to York University and St John's College. I regularly travel between York and Harrogate, and areas around Pannel and Pannel Ash are also convenient.
- When are you available?
I am available after 5pm and on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I prefer learners and coachees of 16 and above, as this fits most appropriately with my experience.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have Skype and Windows Messenger. Further details can be discussed based on the individual requirements.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am a friendly and personal individual and my experience and learning in Psychology mean that I am able to be flexible to your needs and understand some of the challenges you face as a learner. I am also able to understand why there may be blocks to your learning and work with you to overcome these. I believe it to be important to make sure you are relaxed and feel comfortable, and also that you enjoy the sessions and consider them to be productive.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have over ten years experience in teaching and training. I began teaching in a conversation school in Japan, and went on to work with learners and trainees from some of the biggest international names such as Sony, IBM and L'Oreal both in London and Tokyo. I obtained my TESOL in Prague and I have continued to work with a great variety of people including students, public and private sector workers. and tailor my techniques to suit the individual.
In the last few years, I have worked in selection and assessment, both for recruitment and promotions. My work has also involved training in relation to assessments. Please note that I am unable to provide career coaching and specific advice in relation to assessments for joining and advancing in the police service due to a conflict of interest.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I don't have a certificate, although I have been CRB checked.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society, and registered as a Practioner-in-training with the Division of Occupational Psychology. This means I am undertaking supervised practice in order to become a Chartered Occupational Psychologist.
I am also a member of the Special Interest Group in Coaching, which is a part of the British Psychological Society, and an affiliate member of the Association for Coaching.
