About Karla
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been working as a music teacher since 2008. I have been teaching private students in Cardiff, as well as volunteering as a music teacher at Kampala Music School, Uganda. Beyond this I worked for three years as an auxiliary assistant for the Junior Music and Access Studies department at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I was a classroom assistant for theory, musicianship, chamber coaching and choral classes. I now teach oboe and flute for City Music Services. I have experience teaching students from 7 to 50 and am able to teach students whose first language is not English.
I am also a very experienced performer, having worked for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Sinfonia Cymru and Welsh Session Orchestra. I was at age 19 the youngest ever appointment to the Welsh National Opera Placement Scheme.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Karla Powell taught my daughter the oboe for a year and, had Karla stayed in our area, we would have loved her to continue the lessons. Karla's lessons were clearly fun, but at the same time we were thrilled at the progress our daughter made, moving from a rather shaky grade two to grade four level in a year. Karla was kind, patient, and excellent at finding interesting ways getting concepts across. I would recommend Karla most highly.
