- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach Mathematics for: KS2 SATs, Common Entrance, 11+ and 13+, KS3 and GCSE.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for GCSE
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Alongside my tutorials, I recommend a little bit of Maths practice, every night or two, in the run-up to exams; also, reading questions two times before answering in order to prevent careless mistakes - this often makes the difference between one grade and another! My particular strengths are algebra, fractions and graphs, which form the basis of a great deal of Maths, and I believe that I can help anyone to understand them by using the necessary methods. Sometimes, students just need to be taught in a different way, for understanding. I am also well practiced in taking students to higher levels with worded problem solving, a common theme at 11+ and GCSE, by teaching them to convert words into numbers and symbols.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have seven years of Primary teaching and three years of Secondary Maths teaching/tutoring experience, both in the State and Private Sectors and can provide references. I have taught accross all year groups and moderated (marked) 11+ entrance papers. Furthermore, when living in West London, I prepared students for Common Entrance, 11+ for, amongst others: City of London School for Boys, Cheltenham Ladies College, Haberdashers Aske's, Merchant Taylor's, Notting Hill & Ealing High School and Tiffin Boys School. In East and Southeast London, I have prepared students for Common Entrance, 11+ for, amongst others: Bancroft's School, Blackheath High School for Girls, Chigwell School, City of London School for Boys, City of London School for Girls, Forest School, Harrow School, Ilford County High School, St Olave's Grammar School, The John Lyon School, Tiffin Boys School, Wilmington School for Girls and Wilson's School. Notably, one of my past students achieved a 100% academic scholarship to City of London Boys.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have CRB checks that are a couple of years out of date but plenty of references.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Brunel University, Twickenham
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have just returned from Maternity Leave (my two sons attend a local Nursery). My previous students were 6 to 16 years of age. A couple had missed stages in the curriculum, due to time off school (ill or abroad, for example) and wanted to catch up, others struggled with Maths and wanted to feel more confident/get better grades and some were naturally good at Maths and wanted to ensure continuing top grades, as well as those who sat in the middle.
• B Sc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics
• PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education)
• Current CRB Certificate
The tutoring recieved from Karolina has been invaluable in raising the confidence level of my ten-year old child and in developing his abilities way beyond what they would have been had we stuck to the classroom lessons only.
My son has been taking English lessons from Karolina - he likes her teaching - and took the 11+ in 2010/11. He passed for all of the private schools that he applied to and willl be joining City of London School on a 100% bursary.
The integrity and honesty of the tutor has helped us to accurately appraise my son's Maths skills and this has helped us to develop a robust plan for his improvement. The difference is clear to see.
Karolina has been professional from the beginning. She has been prompt for appointments and gives helpful advice. She is also easy to talk to regarding any concerns that we may have regarding the school entry process. She has been very good with our daughter, the lessons are going very well and she is steadily gaining in confidence.
