I am a professional singer that has sung in venues such as the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne Opera. I teach classical, musical theatre and pop singing for all levels and ages.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Classical singing (opera, art song, oratorio etc), singing for musical theatre and pop singing.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I most recently trained at the National Opera Studio, London. Before this I gained an Advanced Diploma in Opera and a Master of Arts with DipRAM at the Royal Academy of Music, and a 1st class Bachelor of Music (Hons) at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Please do click on the link on the media tab to see a video of me singing the aria 'Una voce poco fa' from Rossini's 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia'.
I attended classes on the LRAM teaching course at the Royal Academy of Music.
I hold a current DBS.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £35/hour or £25/half hour. I offer a 10% discount for a block of 10 lessons paid for in advance (so essentially 1 free lesson).
I do not offer a first lesson for free - this is an error on the Superprof website.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach from my flat near Maze Hill station, as we would have access to my wide range of vocal scores, a piano and other teaching material. However, I could potentially travel to your home if it is in the SE London area.
- When are you available?
I am available Mon-Fri daytimes, some weekday evenings, and some Saturday daytimes.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels from beginners to advanced, and all ages.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM and Trinity grades in classical singing
Entrance to specialist music schools/junior music colleges/undergraduate/masters courses
Musical Theatre exams such as the LAMDA or LCM exams and similar exams
Pop/rock singing exams such as Rockschool
(Of course only if the student is interested! Obviously there is no pressure to take any exams.)
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe that singing lessons should be fun. Learning to sing with a good technique makes you able to sing freely and express as you want to.
Whether you want to learn just for fun or for a more specific reason (such as joining a choir or getting into music college), I would be more than happy to help!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked as an opera singer with companies such as the Royal Opera and Glyndebourne and performed at venues such as the Wigmore Hall and King's Place. I am interested in a wide range of musical styles.
I have been teaching singing for a few years since graduating from music college. I have taught students of differing levels and experience, and really enjoy catering the lesson to each individual student to suit each's unique learning style.
I have been studying classical singing for over 10 years and have attended various institutions and encountered different styles of teaching. Through this I feel I've gained new perspective on effective teaching methods, and how to explain things in different ways to suit different students. I attended classes on the LRAM teaching course for a year at the Royal Academy of Music, both on general teaching methods and on more specific singing repertoire and anatomy.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
National Opera Studio
Royal Academy of Music with Elizabeth Ritchie
Trinity College of Music with Ameral Gunson
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have some students that just want to sing for fun, or to improve their personal confidence.
Recently two of my students successfully auditioned for prestigious London undergraduate musical theatre courses. Some are preparing for ABRSM and LAMDA exams, and some want to prepare for auditions.
Some would like to gain confidence in singing with their local choir or choral society.
Contrary to what is written, I do not offer a first lesson for free. This is an error on the Superprof website.
