I am a classically trained soprano, keen to share my passion and help develop your vocal potential!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I primarily teach Classical Singing technique, whether in preparation for exams, for vocal development or just for fun! I also teach theory and music appreciation.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have recently left a postgraduate vocal course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, studying under Suzanne Murphy. In 2012, I graduated with a First Class Music BA Hons from the University of Chichester.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £32 per hour or £16 for half an hour of singing lessons. You can also book a block of 10 hours for an advance, discounted fee of £300.
For theory (Grades 1-5), I charge £20 for an hour session.
- Where do you teach?
I live 5-10 minutes from Southampton City Centre, with good public transport links. I am also happy to travel to my students in Hampshire, but advise that I do not have a portable keyboard. I frequently teach in Winchester, so am happy to travel to any nearby towns including Eastleigh, Twyford and Romsey. The New Forest is also not too far from me. I am always happy to discuss travel arrangements, so please feel free to enquire!
- When are you available?
I will be available to teach after school, at weekends and during the holidays. Please do get in touch to discuss times and arrangements to suit.
I am currently unavailable Monday evenings, as I stay overnight in Gloucester for my school teaching commitments there.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Beginners and up to Grade 8. All ages welcome, although I advise for children to start no earlier than year 3.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I teach the ABRSM grade syllabus, prepare students for auditions and exams but I am also very happy to teach those who want to learn to sing just for fun!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Singing is the most natural form of musical expression so if you're looking to explore and develop your voice (whether with a serious goal, or just for pleasure), get in touch for a fun, vibrant and holistic approach to lessons!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I originally trained as a chorister at Winchester Cathedral and have worked as a freelance singer since 2006. I have a keen interest in opera, oratorio and art song, and I love teaching musical theatre!
I worked with the Hampshire County Children's Choir from 2008-2009 as the choir assistant. This involved teaching sightreading and musicianship as well as conducting and coaching on technique. From there, I was invited to become a Singing Teacher for the National Children's Choir of Great Britain in 2009, teaching children aged 9-15 years old, and have enjoyed teaching with them in the holidays ever since.
Since graduating in 2012, I have been working as a peripatetic singing teacher; teaching both privately and in preparatory schools including the Walhampton School, Lymington and Daneshill, Hook. Although the majority of my teaching is with children, my private students have ranged all the way up to students in their 70s - anyone and everyone is welcome!!
I currently teach at Wycliffe College Preparatory School in Gloucestershire, and at St Swithun's School, Winchester.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Katie is a brilliant teacher guiding our son through his grade III ABRSM voice exam to distinction and also helping him to secure a place in the National Children's Choir with which he sang at the Edinburgh Festival this summer. Katie is a real treasure - encouraging, enthusiastic, wonderfully musical ... A teaching star, whom we cannot recommend highly enough.
