I am a dedicated math teacher, who firmly believes in a Growth Mindset, a belief that learning & intelligence can grow with time and persistence as oppose to a Fixed Mindset in which abilities, intelligence, and talents are fixed and can never be improved.
After 6 years of tutoring, I am very familiar with the Additional Math and Math Exam Syllabus inside out as I keep myself updated with the latest syllabus by consulting my teacher friends and getting feedback from my students.
I practice questions that frequently appear in test and exams and caution students about common mistakes made and the misconceptions students may have for every Math topic.
I bring real-world examples to explain difficult and abstract concepts whenever possible. I encourage two-way communication to make sure that my students' understand what I have taught them and I follow up by giving them questions during lesson as well as homework to apply what they have learnt and to reinforce their learning.
What I love is the accomplishment of seeing my students’ Additional Math and Math grades improve and knowing that they understand what they're learning. When their grades improve, their confidence soars and motivation level increase, this creates a virtuous cycle of constant improvement. I derive great happiness whenever I see my students strive to overcoming difficulties and performing to the best of their abilities. I am not implying that students must score distinctions for Math. Even if a student just manage to pass his/her math but have constantly failed previously, I am still very proud of that student and it give me motivation to try harder.
Have taught 10 primary and secondary school students (aged 8 to 16) weekly through volunteering and private classes. I enjoy working through examples and from there, explaining the concepts behind questions as I feel like it makes it easier to visualise the problem. I won the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (Gold in 2015) and Australian Math Kangaroo Competition (Silver in 2016), and achieved A1 in Additional Math and Elementary Math in GCE O Levels. (A* equivalent)
Due to outstanding performance in the International Baccalaureate examinations in 2020, I was awarded the Singapore Government Scholarship (Ministry of Defence) to pursue Economics at Kings College London, and was presented the Academic Excellence Award by Anglo Chinese School (Independent) (Top School in Singapore and Globally; Presented 35/69 of all perfect scorers in 2020)
In the GCE O Level Examinations, I scored 8/8 distinctions, and was awarded the Singapore's Ministry of Education's Edusave Scholarship in 2016 and the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools for two consecutive years from 2019 to 2020. I have been awarded the Silver award for Academic Excellence by my school, and got the Gold Merit Award for overall character and academic excellence in 2018.
I will be in London from September 2021 onwards. I will charge a travelling fee of 10 pounds each lesson.

Tanya is extremely patient and motivating in her teaching/mentoring. Under her guidance for almost 3 years, i learnt many things not simply by direct teaching, but also through the way she provokes thought and allows for creative freedom. She's a great person to be under!!
Tanya is very patient and really takes the time to make sure that you understand the topic. She also tries to make learning interesting through different analogies and practices, so that it is easier to remember concepts.
Tanya is an energetic and fun tutor, extremely talented with playing the piano. Helped me understand music better.
Offers really good math lessons, helped me gain confidence in my math skills! Was definitely a major factor in helping me achieve my A1 in o level mathematics! One of the most nurturing, patient and funny ways of teaching that allowed me to change the way I saw math
I was struggling to understand my GCE O Level's Additional Math topic in Circles and Coordinate Geometry, but Tanya provided many additional materials and worked through the solutions together with me. Whenever I was in doubt, Tanya would encourage me to think outside the box and provide hints to me, so I would naturally derive the solution. Honestly, I think it was with great help that I managed to score an 80% in Math during my examinations due to her help (was previously failing or borderline pass at 51%)
Tanya is a really friendly and patient math tutor! I struggle to understand a lot of math concepts, but she takes time to explain them to me and makes sure that I understand them before moving on to other topics. She also gives me lots of good practises to test my knowledge of the different math topics. I definitely wouldn't have done so well in my math exams if it weren't for her help. I def recommend Tanya as a tutor, I think she's a great tutor for anyone and she has tons of knowledge to share.
Tanya is a dedicated tutor who never fails to bring out the best in her students! With her years of experience in piano, she is able to let her students progress as fast as possible with excellent results. It is no doubt that her teaching methods are efficient and easy to understand. I highly recommend!
Tanya is a super friendly and outgoing person, who will make you feel at ease moments from meeting her. She is able to convey her ideas easily and comfortably. Overall, she is a responsible tutor who makes lessons fun and engaging!
I know Tanya as her student for grade 8 piano and as a math tutor. She patiently taught me both grade 8 ABRSM piano and music theory, which allowed me to get merit for both exams. Tanya is also an extremely good teacher at IB HL maths. She patiently taught be the basics of calculus and statistics, as well as functions and algebra, which made me score a 7 in IB HL maths.
Tanya is a patient and motivational tutor. Not only was she able to teach me complicated concepts in math in a concise manner, she also taught me in a way that encouraged me to try harder and made me look forward to her lessons.
