I am a qualified chemistry teacher with industrial experience. I have taught a wide age range of children, who have enjoyed the sessions and been enthused to find out more for themselves.

I teach general science to younger students, focussing on chemistry and physics at GCSE and chemistry at A-level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BSc Honours in Physical Sciences and a PGCE in secondary science
- How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour. Travel costs are additional. Online sessions are £25 per hour. A trial lesson may be requested, which will be half the usual price.
- Where do you teach?
I teach in the students' homes, at suitable third party venues (e.g. village halls or community centres for groups) or online. I will travel up to one hour from home (Hertford) during the daytime. In the evening, students come to my home.
- When are you available?
I am available weekdays and evenings, but not weekends. I am willing to consider school holidays, though that will be subject to my availability.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach general science to students at KS1, KS2 and KS3; at GCSE I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics; at AS/A-Level I teach Chemistry
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for GCSE following AQA and Edexcel IGCSE syllabi; for A-level chemistry following AQA and OCR (both A and B courses)
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype, making use of its screen sharing function. I have also performed science demonstrations which have then been copied by the students, and I email activity sheets appropriate to the work prior to a session.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Science is everywhere. We observe the universe about us and try to make sense of it. Science is the expression of that. Looking at a curriculum to prepare for exams seems daunting but much of it can be related to our experiences: understanding the small scientific principles leads to understanding larger, more complex ideas. Sir Isaac Newton wrote that he saw further than others by standing on the shoulders of giants. OK, he really was a genius but that description applies to you too, whether or not you think you are a genius. Get to know the small stuff well and you have a stable foundation to think big.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I was in pharmaceutical research and development for 17 years as a chemist and retrained as a science teacher, which I have done for three years. I also tutored students individually and in small groups from 5 -year-olds upwards.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
I am currently teaching several groups of home schooled students, from 5 to 16 years old. I am also tutoring students to A-level one-to-one as guidance to help them revise for GCSE and A-level examinations.
For the younger children, my lessons may follow the National Curriculum either closely or loosely (by choice of the parents) with the aim of introducing them to activities that explore the physical and living world, with explanatory notes about the scientific principles to assist parents. Some parents like to have worksheets for each lesson; some like to have homework tasks given for their children to continue studying out of lesson time.
