I would cater my lessons to the student's own requirements and base the Swedish lessons on those, perhaps doing hourly blocks. I can factor in my translation experience, if the student prefers for the language to come from a text, but I am also willing to focus on conversation. I offer lessons at beginners' and improvers' levels, but would also consider higher-level classes.
I am a freelance Swedish to English translator and CELTA-qualified teacher of English as a second language available for 1-2-1 Swedish lessons. I have a degree in Swedish from the University of Surrey and 13 years of professional experience working with languages in the translation industry and am now looking to bring this experience to the world of tutoring.
Higher price for higher levels, negotiated on an individual basis.
Can travel further than 20 km, but would need to consider the distance in my travel costs.
I am a qualified English-as-a-second-language teacher, having recently gained a CELTA from International House in London, UK, with a strong language background through many years of experience working as a translator, proofreader and manager in the translation industry. A native speaker of British English and graduate of the University of Surrey, I am looking to build upon initial experience gained on the CELTA course and use my strong interpersonal and language skills in a teaching context. I would like to bring my experience of training new translators, appraising their progress and managing my own language-related tasks – and the linguistic attention to detail and empathy for the learner that this entails – to the classroom, where I hope to help speakers of English as a second language to improve their skills.
June 2019-August 2019 – CELTA course, International House, London, UK.
Part-time course working towards a certificate of English language teaching to adults (CELTA), with a pass awarded in September 2019. Course comprised weekly input sessions with course tutors, 4 assignments and 8 teaching practices (TPs), which saw me teaching 40 minute or 60 minute lessons at either a mixed elementary/pre-intermediate level (first 4 TPs) or an upper intermediate level (last 4 TPs). Observations of experienced teachers were also successfully completed as part of the course, as were four written assignments.
May 2019 and September 2019 – Observations, EC Euston, London, UK.
Observed three experienced teachers at EC Euston in London. All classes consisted of students learning English as a second language aged over 30, but at different levels (intermediate, lower intermediate and elementary).
May 2010 – present. Freelance translator of Swedish, Danish, German and Norwegian into English.
Initially on an ‘ad hoc’ basis, then more substantially part-time (from April 2016, three days a week), then full-time (from November 2017), I have been translating foreign-language texts into English for many years now, working in genres such as marketing, technical, legal and pharmaceutical. I take pleasure in crafting high-quality pieces of English that reflect the source-language text, ensuring first and foremost that the translations are ‘fit for purpose’ and accurate, as well as ensuring that they read well and are grammatically correct. I receive work from a number of different translation companies.

• Conducting annual appraisals for other translators and proofreaders in team
• Representing translation team at company meetings
• Liaising with project managers/senior management as the representative for the translators; some coordination of translation work in-house
• Monthly 1-2-1s with other translators in team
November 2010 – January 2013. Translator at Surrey Translation Bureau (STB Ltd), Farnham, UK.
• Translated a large variety of technical, marketing, legal and administrative documents from German, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian into English as part of the in-house translation team, who worked alongside the project management team. Worked independently to ensure deadlines were met and that the translated English document was of suitable quality and ‘fit for purpose’.
