Law student offering English language and literature lessons up to a 6th Form Level

Methodology

My teaching method stems from my experiences as a student having taken my GCSE's and A-Level fairly recently. I base my classes around each individual student, in every initial class I will outline the students needs and set targets and plan a syllabus around that. I will provide any textbooks, books or equipment I need, I only ask that the parent's provide any specific books that they would like their son or daughter to use.

Experience

I am a legal student with a background in a variety of essay subjects including but not limited to GCSE and A-level English literature, language and Psychology and my current law degree. Though I have only just begun tutoring professionally, I have a background in academic tutoring and mentoring whilst completing my GCSE's and A-Level.

Work Experience

Waitress -Pizza Express (July 2015 – August 2018)
I worked for 3 years in Pizza Express as a waitress. My duties included delivering a polite and friendly service to my customers and maintaining an enjoyable environment for customers to eat their food in. Other duties included cleaning and laying tables, taking payment and organising stock; I also had to act as a barista making a variety of hot drinks for customers.

Waitress – Frankie & Benny’s (September 2017 – December 2017)

For a brief period I worked as a waitress for Frankie & Benny’s in Hanley. My duties were exactly the same as those required of me at Pizza Express.

Ofgem – Intern HR Administrator (July 2016 – August 2016)
During my summer vacation I was lucky enough to participate in a 6-week internship programme with the civil service company Ofgem, in their Human Resource and Legal department. During the experience, I was able to learn a lot of valuable information, as well as gain many valuable skills. These include a more in depth understanding of employment law and the role in plays within company’s and the civil sector. As a part of my role in the HR department I had the opportunity to draw up many contracts, send out various official letters and liaise with professionals both within and outside of the company. Additionally, I was able to develop multiple ad-hoc skills such as photocopying, filing, answering phone calls, sending emails and much more.

Thomas Mansfield – Law Intern (June 2016)
This year I was able to complete a week long work experience with Thomas Mansfield solicitors. As a part of this I reviewed cases the firm had previously fought and discovered more about the law as well as more about the role of solicitors in the legal sector.

Barista - Roadchef: Costa Coffee (May 2015 - September 2015)
I previously worked at Costa Coffee in the Clacket Lane Roadchef establishment. I was fully trained and worked as a barista so my duties required making hot and cool drinks, serving customers their food and serving customers on the till. I also had to ensure that my surroundings were kept clean this included, cleaning the counter, sweeping and mopping the floor and washing all equipment I used.

Aquinas Summer Programme – Leader/Teaching Assistant (August 2015)
During my summer holidays I worked as group leader and teaching assistant within the summer programme run by my school. My role as leader included being responsible for a group of children and leading them in different activities throughout the day. I also organised them so that they were on time and prepared for each of their sessions, ensured they ate lunch and that their belongings were kept safe. My second role in the programme as a teaching assistant took place in the drama department, where I conducted and assisted with drama workshops, ensuring the children had fun in a safe way.

Scope- Sales Assistant (January 2015 – May 2015)
In 2015 I volunteered for a short time as a sales assistant in the charity shop Scope. My tasks there would include preparing stock, dressing the mannequin’s and cleaning among various other duties.

Hobbies and Interests
In my spare time I enjoy I am a member of societies within my university. This includes drama society which has greatly improved my confidence and public speaking I am also a member of the literature society which is good as I like to go to the theatre and to read. In an effort to expand my horizons I also joined the Salsa dancing society, it is something quite outside my comfort zone but through doing it I have improved my confidence, fitness and expanded my social circle. This has also encouraged me to push myself to do other new things in my spare time, having recently tried dirt biking for the first time, I have gone on to arrange other social outings such as camping, rock-climbing and ab sailing, paintballing, indoor skiing and snowboarding, indoor skydiving and go karting. In my previous school I also mentored and tutored various students, helping them with their reading and English literature.
