The lessons can vary always depending on the goals and the type of each student. I never use the same plan for every student, this is why I do not rely only on textbooks. I use them as a basis but always enriched with much extra material.
I also combine traditional methods with more modern techniques:
* someone that starts from scratch definitely needs a solid grammar basis but focusing on vocabulary and communication is a priority. So he or she starts to use the language from the very first class, feeling confident.
*textbooks do not offer a natural input, so I am trying to provide that to a student by modifying the material tailored to his/her needs and combining it with extra tools, like videos, real ads, etc.
*speech acts! Very essential. From the basic level, students must know how to ask for something, how to give directions, suggest, deny, ask for permission, etc.
*an example of focusing on communication and combining grammar is the following: we need to learn a new structure in Grammar that is usually presented in books listed in tables. That is a traditional method but combined with a more inspired approach, such as using them in order to learn how to ask for information, it makes it more communicational and of course more efficient.
*Quizzes from the beginning, movies, and series to work on for more advanced levels.
I love teaching and interacting with different cultures. This is why I chose this profession and I am very happy to have helped dozens of students to speak or improve their Greek, to have confidence when they speak with their family or when they visit Greece and of course to succeed in exams.
I have a Master's Degree in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language from the University of Athens and I speak fluently English and Spanish.
I have worked since 2005 in multinational classes of 20 people, with children, but mostly I have tutored many people from around the world online. Totally they are more than 100 people.

Filisia is a great teacher! She always has a positive mindset, a happy posture. Very flexible when booking classes including when dealing with different time zones which is my case. She quickly understands where a student is lacking more to focus on that area. Filisia adjusts the classes and topics according to what students are looking for and what are their expectations and goals. She quickly creates a learning plan tailored to that student and adapts it according to the student progression. I’m happy with my progression on the Greek language and I totally
Hi Filisia has taught me Greek since 2016. She has seen me through beginners Greek all the way to the intermediate level. I have increased both my written and Conversational Greek beyond the level I expected. She sourced materials from different places for our lessons rather than go with just one book. And she speaks excellent English. I would highly recommend her!
My daughter was the first to discover Filisia and was so enthusiastic about her Greek lessons I also become one of Filisia’s pupils. I have never found learning a language easy but from the very first lesson I was made to feel so positive about beginning the journey to becoming a Greek speaker. Filisia takes you at your own speed to ensure you gain all the building blocks to develop your language knowledge. Alongside learning a language Filisia shares Greek culture and history which enhances every session. I can highly recommend Filisia.
I met Filisia in Athens when I was staying there with a friend for a short while, and I can say that my love for the Greek language only grew with her. She is an excellent teacher, very qualified and knowledgeable, passionate about language and history and eager to help her students know more about Athens. She came to my hotel every morning, having prepared her lessons and also brought me extra worksheets and exercises. Learning with her was fun and exciting. I did not only gain a very good teacher but also a friend in Athens. I was able to learn in a short while more than I could expect from myself. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to learn Greek, at any level. You are guaranteed to make quick progress, especially if you're passionate about Greece and Greek language!
I met Filisia about three and half years ago when I was looking for a tutor to help me learn Greek. I was initially skeptical about having lessons over Skype, but Filisia's approach, teaching style, knowledge and character won me over. Filisia has been an excellent teacher from day one (when I knew almost no Greek). Filisia designs the lessons specifically for the student she is teaching, in my case this ranged from structured grammar lessons backed by material from books to general conversations about day to day life, current affairs, culture, history. She has never come to a lesson unprepared and always knows exactly where we left off the previous lesson. I would recommend Filisia without hesitation to anyone who wants to learn Greek.
I was fortunate enough to have Felisia as my tutor last year to help me with my Greek learning. Felisia is a fabulous teacher who is both encouraging and challenging. She is highly perceptive about the needs of her students and easily adapts to accommodate where necessary. Felisia has some lively and creative ideas and resources which are stimulating and inspiring. I have no hesitation in recommending Felisia as a great languages teacher and she us certainly a Superprof!
I studied Greek with Filisia to refresh my Greek. I found her trustworthy and punctual. Filisia is excellant at explaining the Greek language and grammar. She helped me understand and appreciate modern Greek usage.
I have been a student with Filisia for five years and that should say a lot already, I found Filisia through a teaching website. Filisia took me on as an absolute beginner. Filisia structures the lessons to mix up writing, listening and conversation exercises. Filisia takes the time to understand how you learn and also help you with strategies when exercises are difficult. Filisia is so patient and knows when to push you a little - she cares about you and your learning. I have been learning via Skype as I’m in the UK and Filisia lives in Athens. Because Filisia lives in Greece you get to learn a lot about the culture, history etc - she is a very generous teacher. I personally like to have lots of homework and Filisia is happy to send through exercises to build on your lessons and always feeds back so you know where you need to focus on. I would highly recommend Filisia whether you are an absolute beginner learning Greek upto the advanced Level. Anita Henson
Filisia is the best!
She is a wonderful teacher, her methodology is clear, providing solid pillars during the process of understanding the Greek language. With her lessons, we learn how to communicate in Greek, not only learning phrases and words, like other courses I tried before.
She teaches with love and passion for teaching languages, so you can feel and see her dedication and efforts. She always wants to give us the best learning experience.
I am grateful and highly recommend her lessons to anyone who really wants to learn greek
I have known Filisia for almost four years and I'm delighted that she is my Greek tutor. Her pleasant nature and her abundance of patience are key qualities that provide a constant source of reassurance to me.
Filisia is a good motivator and can also empathise with my experience of studying a foreign language. Her excellent command of English helps her to communicate well and to explain complex or confusing aspects when they arise. Filisia’s lessons are well planned and she produces additional training aids and exercises tailored to my needs which complement the standard learning materials. She is good at identifying the causes of any difficulties and at developing bespoke solutions to overcome them.
Filisia is an experienced tutor, is very professional and conducts her tutoring in a structured, friendly, and disciplined manner. I am immensely grateful for the constant support and guidance that she has given me in my Greek studies and I am confident that other students will have the same respect that I have for her tutoring skills and qualities. Σε ευχαριστώ πολύ Φιλισία!
