My aim it to teach in a way that is engaging and fun. I teach online and begin with new students by doing a baseline assessment to ascertain where we need to start. I can then plan how to teach the syllabus for the Eleven Plus, with enhanced lessons for high achievers. Once a particular piece of work is finished, I assess again to see if the pupil is ready to move on,
I have been working with children of all abilities for 40 years, as a nursery nurse, then qualified as a teacher in 2009. I have been teaching children with specific learning difficulties for ten years on a one to one basis. I am now teaching online.
Because I only offer online lessons, you may be required to by materials, such as coloured ink for your printer, playdoh (useful for teaching fractions and decimals!),
the few books I will recommend, coloured pens or pencils and lots of printer paper.
My name is Lizzie and I am 56 years old. I have an honours degree in Child Psychology and am a qualified teacher (PGCE)
I have been successfully teaching the Eleven Plus for ten years. I also teach children of different abilities and ages on a one to one, online basis.
Research has shown that a positive relationship between pupils and their teachers enriches learning and boosts results. Therefore although I am teaching online I try to be as positive and encouraging as possible, helping children feel safe to have a go at problems and not to have to worry about getting everything right first time. Learning is a process and mistakes are a part of that.
The age range I teach is from 7 to 12 years, as I am primary trained. I am also a qualified and experienced nursery nurse which helps me enhance my lessons with activities for children struggling with English and Mathematics.
My teaching techniques involve assessment to begin, so that I can find the gaps in each pupil's learning. I do this for all pupils whatever their ability so I know how to pitch lessons. For example, some children may require advanced lessons in mathematics, while others need to do hands on tasks to help with spelling. I use videos as well as recommended books to teach from and my own material. Whatever I can do to make a lesson interesting I will do.
As well at teaching high achieving primary aged children, because my degree is in cognitive and language development, I am able to devise stimulating and fun lessons for children with specific learning difficulties.
