My methodology is to teach by first making students feel comfortable and relaxed, then I teach them how to follow rhythm and finally I teach the students basic steps and technique in small memorable chunks so they can retain information.

I've been having lessons with Thomas for years. I've had lots of fun and have learnt so much! Thomas is a professional dancer and also has the ability to break things down in an engaging and accessible way for learners. Highly recommended.
Thomas is a great dancer, dance teacher. His classes are always fun and you will learn new moves and grow in confidence as his style is relaxed friendly and encouraging.
You are a budding Fred Astair or Ginger Rogers or have two left feet he will get you dancing with style panache and confidence. What are you waiting for give him a call or get down to one of his classes. Arriba:-)))
I loved attending Thomas’s classes
He took time to explain and is able to aim each session at lots of differing levels. The classes always ran on time and with a warm, friendly environment.
Real value for money for the individual attention he so easily gives even in a full class, without holding anyone back or making beginners feel like they need to struggle to keep up. Highly recommend
I met Thomas O’Flaherty in 2016, as a participant at his beginners’ dance classes at my local jazz club. I found him to be a patient, good-natured instructor keen to share his enthusiasm for dance.
During this year one of my customers, Autism West Midlands, approached me to put on a Brazil-themed celebration for the residents of their facility in Selly Park. In addition to my percussion workshop they wanted to add a dance and movement experience for the residents. I invited Thomas to facilitate this event with me.
We were told by staff that most of the residents have high physical support needs and could not be expected to move in a co-ordinated manner using both upper and lower body movements. Thomas had no previous experience working with groups of people who have autism.
Thomas immediately established a good rapport with the residents and staff alike. His approach was open and friendly, and he was able to present instructions at a basic level which made sense to the participants. By the end of the day people were fully engaged, having a lot of fun and indeed working upper and lower body areas simultaneously, to the surprise of their staff.
Since then I have been pleased to work together with Thomas on 5 more themed days at Autism West Midlands.
I have no hesitation in recommending Thomas to organisations looking for a knowledgeable dance teacher who in addition has a willingness to break down the barriers of ability and get the best out participants, whatever skill level they present themselves with.
Thomas has been teaching me Salsa in Birmingham for a few weeks. He is always punctual and welcoming. Provides clear instruction making the class easy to follow and very enjoyable. He encourages everyone to get involved and show off their learnings.
Thomas is a warm patient teacher who is very talented and focuses on building up your knowledge and skills. I thoroughly enjoyed our classes for many years and he taught the group well. Thank you Thomas... very much recommend
Thomas has been a great teacher. Very dedicated, professional and perspicacious.
His rhythm and musical knowledge are on point and I fully recomend.
I attended a introduction to Latin Music and movement workshop along with teenagers from my family. I was feeling vulnerable due to chronic poor health. Thomas was welcoming and inclusive to all. We enjoyed the history and instruments tutorial, followed by dancing. He gave us skills and encouragement. We left his workshop feeling like dancers. Thomas's classes gave me a safe space to learn and grow in confidence and body strength and a dancing community to be part of. His classes have been crucial to my recovery back to health
Thomas took me quickly me from a Salsa Virgin to a confident Salsa dancer. In his patient, engaging manner the basics and fundamentals of salsa dancing were clearly explained and with the accompanying salsa/Latin music it enabled me to progress easily in a structured and methodical manner.
I made great friends for life through the classes and had loads of fun in the socials afterwards. Everyone was so welcoming. I learned to appreciate and “hear” the music and learned natural body movement.
My confidence as a social dancer and generally has skyrocketed. Several years on I am a salsa junky and still apply all the stuff Thomas taught me. I just wish I has started classes several years earlier.. Dance is such great fun.

Salsa and Tango Classes with Thomas O’Flaherty
I really enjoyed my time in Thomas O’Flaherty’s Salsa and Tango dance classes. He is passionate about dance, often giving really interesting snippets of history on the origins of the dances. I am in a position to state that he is incredibly patient, ensuring that everyone ‘gets it’ before moving on. He will also take time out to help the ‘uncoordinated’ master a particular (or tricky) step. He has a really warm personality that resonates throughout the class making the whole experience so invigorating that you don’t realise that you are exercising. I also really enjoyed the social dancing session, where I was able to put what I had learned in the studio into practice. It was initially challenging, but my confidence grew and found that I had learned a lot without realising it. Taking these classes with Thomas was certainly one of my better decisions and I aim to return when my health improves.
