I'm studying an undergraduate degree, so I'm able to tutor students up to A-levels and first year undergraduate confidently. I like to introduce a topic, go over a couple of examples and then expand on areas that my students find difficult or interesting.
I am Lucas, a 21 year old Masters student at Imperial College London, taking genetics. I graduated from the University of East Anglia with a upper second class Bsc in Biological Sciences in 2017. I have experience with teaching, and specifically tutoring having done it in the past and am willing to teach from GCSE all the way up to undergraduate level.
Biology can be a hard subject to wrap your head around unless you are talking to someone who understands it and is genuinely interested in it.
My classes are based on the topic covered in the school, where I would use online materials and YouTube videos to make the subject easy and interesting for the student. I generally ready journal articles where I collect some fun facts which I will be using in the lesson to add more value and difference to the topic I teach.
In previous tutoring lessons, I usually just focused on topic areas that the students told me they found more difficult or whichever topic they had covered last in class. I'm happy to follow the same structure or go through the syllabus methodically and cover it all chapter by chapter.
At the start of each tutor relationship I meet the student in question to find out their needs and their learning styles. I will then tailor each session to them as an individual to ensure they make the most progress possible. I am currently teaching Year 7 - 13 pupils, however, I can also offer Science and Maths tutoring to the primary age range.
As a tutor I will make the student academically strong in the subject and concept. Initially I will know their level of subject knowledge and then I start my teaching according to their ability.if they need to teach at the from the basic , I am very happy to enhance their subject knowledge.
I am looking to tutor students from grade 8 up to the first year of university who loves science. I acknowledge that every individual has a different approach to studying therefore I am open to different methods of studying. The primary studying structure I follow consists of grouping and mapping topics so that they are easy to understand and remember.
I believe that there is no single approach to teaching and each student has different needs which I will always cater for. I am a friendly and approachable person and I am always willing to answer questions and support and guide students through their education.
I am able to teach one-to-one as well as in groups. I have taught all ages from 3 years old to adults. I teach in many stypes depending on the situation, this can be from giving a talk, to planning an interactive practical lesson or an outdoor demonstration.
I am about to graduate as a dentist and have a passion to teach science and maths: I've sat through these exams and know what it takes to do well in them. Lessons will be interactive and individualised and delivered with humour.
