Main thing for students is they should understand in their way of learning things. Then only they will love that subject. So basically first I ask questions and chat with the student to understand their level and way , then its easier for me to teach.
My goal as a tutor is to help pupils reach their potential and I enjoy seeing the progress one makes through the targeted process that one-on-one tutoring provides. I firmly believe that every individual is unique and therefore the teaching strategies that I aim to use are those that are suited towards the student's own needs. This is discussed when I first meet the student.
I give lessons to individuals working towards either GCSE or A-level biology. Lesson structure would involve targeting particular areas that you are unsure of and providing explanation, with the addition of past questions to reaffirm understanding of the topic.
When tutoring I like to use many different methods of teaching, discussions, notes, practice questions, physical activities. I use humour and lots of examples and analogies which are relevant to my students to help get ideas across. Fun and unforgettable.
I like using figures and if possible a book in my session. I like asking relevant questions and assess the level of understanding of the students to ensure the best outcome. Mostly, i summarise the last session to make sure the student can make the connection between different areas of the subject.
My teaching method is active learning. I would base my classes on lots of short mini quizzes, encouraging students to make their own and do lots of past papers. I approach each topic by breaking it down and relating it to the specification, going through step by step and then using your knowledge to make the points more concise.
