I teach by breaking down the learning into small steps which are achievable for the children. I build on the children's learning allowing the children to feel success and then challenge them to higher level learning. I work with a range of materials to support the children and use a range of strategies so that all my students can access success and achieve their expected outcomes.
Our first lesson together would start with a quick icebreaker so we are both comfortable with each other and get to know each other just a bit better.
My experience to date means that I am able to employ a repertoire of teaching methodologies to meet my learners’ needs. Having taught both Prep and Senior English for ten years, I am especially confident about supporting pupils through key transition points and supporting them with examination preparation.
Depending on what you need, my teaching method changes. If you need help on a specific book you are studying at school, I will read the book before the class and make efficient notes on the book that you can take home, and we will analyse both the notes and certain passages of the book together.
My teaching method is adaptable as I am aware every child is unique and learn at varying paces, I am able to construct individual lessons to best suit a student's needs.
Having worked within the special needs sector my whole teaching career, I feel I have developed the skills to identify pupils’ learning needs. I can detect signs and assess for wide range of learning style, and implement appropriate strategies to help maximise learning.
My teaching method is creative. I try to make the learning exciting by making tasks creative and get children to think about their learning in different ways. I try to engage them using a variety of worksheets and explaining it in a way they would understand if they are struggling.
My teaching method is highly interactive, I like to engage in discussion, to ensure that the student understands the content well. Additionally, I like to break down the content and provide the student with the essential information needed for success, while showing them the technique needed , thus providing the student with the essential recipe of technique and information , ensuring success.
I am a very friendly, patient person who is willing to learn how you learn best in order to help. I also enjoy making anything I do as fun as possible, so I will try my best to make our lessons engaging.
As a dyslexic linguist, I am a firm believer that everyone, with the right support and study methodology, can master any subject. I like to use a mixture of drama games, mnemonics as well as patient explanation and exemplar to teach my students. As someone who has dabbled in clowning, improvising and stand up comedy, I also aim to bring fun, enthusiasm and hilarity.
I take both communicative competence and grammar rather seriously. For younger learners, I tend to focus more on explicit grammar teaching whereas for older and more proficient learners, my focus would be more on how to use language functionally and appropriately.
I base my classes around specific texts, catering to the students needs, focused around close reading and interpretation. I would produce small presentations for each student focusing on their specific needs so maximum learning can be achieved through my tutoring. I can provide general literarcy and grammar teaching if needed also.
My teaching method always relies on the capability of my students however I always pre-plan all my lessons and have a plan B in place I believe in learning about my students as each student would have a different and unique technique and level of understanding
I give lessons to students from GSCE level and below so I will adapt my teaching methods depending on age and thinking styles. I like explaining concepts using real life examples especially when the topic is something really abstract which is extremely helpful in subjects such as Physics.
My teaching method will be predominantly calculated and patient as everyone has difficulties, whether it be enhancing their knowledge of a subject they already know or struggling to understand certain concepts, as I will ensure the students that I tutor are relaxed in a environment that will help them to learn much better,
I am a student at the University of St Andrews currently pursuing a life-long love of arts subjects through a Film & International Relations degree. From previous experience, I would feel more than comfortable to tutor students studying between Primary and GCSE years. I am friendly, enthusiastic, and willing to travel to you and / or help out of hours over social media.
I can teach students either by Skype or in real life. My tutoring style is open and flexible. I always appreciated the ability to ask lots of questions and talk about the bits of things that I didn't understand with teachers and so this is how I will approach tutoring - you can raise any issues, questions or problems and I'll help you with them.
