I am a great believer in tailoring my teaching methods to my specific students. As Einstein once said, "If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking its stupid." I am currently working mainly at KS3 level in a variety of core subjects, however I myself have studied up to degree level and will be starting my PGCE in September 2017.
Inspire, understand and illuminate. Any kid can learn, any kid can listen but not every teacher can teach. I find it crucial to gain an understanding of the pupil in question, as once you understand them, you can teach them.
I conduct a Needs Assessment Analysis with tutees to try and gauge their learning styles and previous knowledge. I then approach each topic being taught within the subject area using guided discovery strategies, whereby students not only learn to take responsibility for their own learning, but are simultaneously taught how to learn.
A focus on building confidence in key universal themes and ideas coupled onto which detail can be attached. This is coupled with highly specific exam technique practice to hone the skills required to succeed. An overview of the time period or topic will be created with course specific details filled in later.
Ensuring that people have a fun, interested and genuinely good experience of education is something I greatly believe in. As such, I strongly believe that when given the opportunity lessons should be tailored specifically to the individual through interesting and practical activities.
I have a strong passion for history and have worked for a TV archiology series twice. Lessons will begin with a general timeline of history then by era with a simplistic approach and detailed structure. Learning will be fun with easy to understand interpretations of historical periods.
I have an enthusiastic and open approach to teaching, covering the 18th Century right up to the late 20th Century. I encourage students to think critically and develop their own ideas, this is especially important when studying History.
I have tutored students French and Latin who were studying for their GCSEs and were of various abilities. I am currently tutoring an adult learner in French pronunciation, translation and grammar by reading Hugo's Les Miserables and Zola's Nana.
I can cater to various students but my primary audeience would be children/ secondary and A-level students that wish to gain a greater understanding of these topics from a comfortable start and exploring further into these subjects depending on their grasp on the information they are given.
I have a passion for seeing progress in my students, but more than this, if the tutor is passionate it helps the student learn! My teaching style is relaxed but structured, first discovering what areas are weakest (whether through lack of confidence or confusion on the subject) and from there to help build confidence in the student so that they can see their improvement and become independent...
David prepares thoroughly for his tutorials and his teaching has been highly commended. He aims to adapt his teaching to fit with the student's learning patterns. David is warm and friendly in his approach, but he is prepared to challenge students when required. He marks homework effectively and promptly.
The lessons I provide will match your syllabus, but I encourage students to push themselves further, so they are not only able to pass their exams, but most importantly become better historians. History is not a difficult subject, but is often made complicated by a single style of teaching, however students need to try out a multitude of methods to find out which way works out best.
I believe tailoring my teaching to the needs of the individual is extremely important in learning. It would be incredibly useful, then, to have a session where I can understand what kind of learner the individual is (visual, auditory or practical) so that I may then plan each teaching session using techniques I know works for that type of learner.
My teaching method seeks to improve three aspects: Critical Reading Skills, Comprehension, Reasoning and Writing. My listens involve reviewing relevant reading materials (provided by you) or sample texts I provide. We will work on breaking down and analyzing the structure texts. The next aspect will involve writing sample arguments, by learning how to write structured outlines.
I enjoy an informal type of lesson- going through an essay and discussing the pros and cons of it is one of my favourite ways of teaching as are more active methods of learning such as Kahoot and fun presentations and games. I will mark essays for you as well as providing you with revision material and past papers.
I aim to bring out the best in every learner and so I always personalise every lesson to the individual student. I have a direct and honest, yet supportive and friendly approach to teaching. As an qualified and experienced teacher and examiner, I know what is needed to pass assessments.
I approach each topic with my student’s ability and style in mind. I work with them on the lessons they have covered in class and I reaffirm their knowledge with the aid of the course work book and my own resources . The lesson will be structured and tailored to the student’s specific needs . I tutor all ages and levels .
I think it is essential that students have a full and comprehensive set of notes on each of the curriculum topics in order to reinforce learning and provide a basis for future exam revision. These would also enable students to learn a basic exam structure for their answers, one which can be adapted to a variety of questions.
I believe tutoring should be based around the students needs. Information and tutoring should be easily accessible but challenging and above all, tailored to the individual student. My belief is that learning is best accomplished through a combination of individual and tutored learning, so I would provide the basis for individual learning between tutor sessions.
I tend to focus on exam technique and study skills. Making information memorable and accessible to anyone, and making sure that a student knows how to answer an exam question can make any subject 100 times easier. Different techniques work for different students, and I see the importance in being able to adapt to particular needs and attitudes.
I want my classes to be open and friendly, and based on discussion around a particular topic. I am a friendly and personable person, and create an environment where the student can feel relaxed and able to ask anything they want about particular subject.
My teaching method is very hands on and practical. I bring a lot of energy and passion for the subjects I teach. From primary basics, through to intellectually stimulating A-level contents. Starting very lesson with what you know, and ending every lesson with what you now know.
I prefer my teaching to be fun and engaging. Rather than learning in a sedentary manner, I find the most positive form of teaching is through digestible chunks, which are tested through games at the end of the lesson.
I'm a firm believer in establishing a really strong relationship with a tutee. Honesty and a bit of humour is key to this. I know how much difference sitting in a classroom with a teacher whose company you actually enjoy makes. Key to my teaching technique is reviewing past-papers in anticipation of upcoming questions.
I teach my students history using the essential techniques. I suit my teaching around how the specific children learn but I have best taught prior students through investigating the past. I am always supportive of students throughout my lessons and make sure they have fun as well as learn.
I would like to give lessons to GCSE students and younger, who wish to receive extra help in history. I approach topics with enthusiasm because, despite some seeming 'boring', all topics in history have something interesting worth learning about. My teaching methods include, discussing the topics and putting across opinions on both sides, as well as creating spider diagrams and planning out essays.
I am a flexible teacher. I use lectures and seminars, as well as group work-shops, to explore issues. I have a methodological approach, and I build each session on the personal development of my students.
Having just obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Ethics and wanting to be a lecturer, I know that a good tutor can make all the difference during a period of study. As a student, I have written long essays, had to memorise tricky texts and be able to produce a well structured argument about them, in both the written and the spoken word.
As a History student at the University of Exeter, I am used to discussing all aspects of the subject. I have specialised in modern history, which is quite popular in the final years of college and highschool. My approach is to combine theoretical concepts and ideas with practical assignments.
I would ideally like to teach secondary age children to A level or GCSE standard. I aim to make the classes enjoyable and interactive letting the student(s) actively pursue the learning objective rather than simply lecturing them. I believe this is the best way to make sure children and young people enjoy and effectively learn.
