I am about to start at Cambridge University to read Physical Natural Sciences, having achieved 4 A*s at A-level. In my tutoring, I aim to give secondary school pupils a deep understanding of mathematical problem solving, so that they are equipped to answer questions that they may not have seen before, thus avoiding exam room surprises.
- Classes Children follow a programme, the starting point being determined by an initial (free) assessment usually carried out in your own home. The basic programme is pure maths - from number recognition to GCSE algebra. It includes topics such as shape, time, measurement, area/perimeter, series, etc. We will also help with applied topics as required.
I have a BSc (Mathematics and Physics) degree from the University of South Africa. Eight years ago I took early retirement from an engineering career in South Africa and immigrated with my wife to France. I use the BBC website and a graphics tablet. I try to make the lessons more interesting by drawing on my engineering background.
My teaching method varies in age group, year group, group lesson and individual lesson. I tend to take the first lesson relaxed and get to know my students well and build a fun and useful lesson to provide the best service also give me the chance to evaluate my student- this gives me an insight on how I should approach them and teach.
My lessons are enjoyable, informative and challenging. I tailor each lesson to suit the individual learner and like my students to look forward to learning with me.
My main goal is to get you exam ready. From my experience, students are intelligent enough to get the highest grades, but struggle to translate their knowledge in exams. I aim to provide a more fundamental understanding to key topics, but succinct enough to ensure you remain focused on the knowledge that will get you marks.
I teach students directly off their own needs. My first session will include a thorough analysis of the strengths and weaknesses within maths before lessons being structured around that.
I am a motivated student with the confidence to push a child to their potential. I first test them on what they know and then work on their weak areas and helping them improve them. I also am going to adapt my style to accommodate the student as every student works differently.
I assess where my student is at an academic level and where they wish to be, I then work on helping them to find their own revision technique, so when I teach them what they may be struggling with they can understand it and then revise themselves, improving their grades gradually.
Working with students to help them understand the larger concepts required to undertake problem solving in scientific and mathmatical studies
Individually planned and assessed sessions aimed to boost confidence and understanding of Maths. Lots of practical work to consolidate understanding. Fun and hands on so the sessions and learning objectives are memorable. I can tutor in your home if in Overton.
I try to tailor teaching methods to the students personal needs. We are all individuals and require individual and personal help and that is my focus.
I try to make my sessions relatable with a focus on making sure the basics are very well understood before progressing as maths is not a subject you can build on unstable foundations. I understand that maths is not a subject that comes easily to all so I am extremely patient to ensure the student is comfortable.
I prefer online tution. We will discuss the syllabus materials and then move on to sample practice questions when you are confident with the lesson.
"If a child can't learn the way we teach; maybe we should teach the way they learn" - I am passionate about showing students they CAN thrive at maths by tapping into their unique way of learning and understanding things. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach Maths, preparing students for SATS and GCSE exams. I also prepare adults for the QTS maths skills test.
After an initial conversation with the student and parent/guardian I come up with a personalised learning plan based on the student's goals and current level. My teaching style focuses on making complex topics simple with clear, concise explanations supplemented by worked out examples and exercises to practice on.
I love teaching by telling examples of real-life applications; which can ease the understanding. Rather than teaching only theories, I want to tell people what they actually mean especially in maths and physics ; not only a bunch of formulas and numbers but what those equations are capable of.
I use notes, presentations and try to use simple analogies to explain a concept. I also feel practice makes perfect and so I would encourage my students to keep practicing as many problems as they can to understand the subject. I also like providing short, concise notes on a subject with short-cut methods.

I am An A-Level Mathematics Student. I tutor Maths for all years up to Year 10. Every Tutor sessions I make sure that the student understands everything, and I set homework to make sure skills learnt are practised and revised.
The typical lesson will usually look like this: First we review with the student what was done in class, I then help the student fully understand the lessons while helping with the homework. Occasionally we will have a training lesson over what was seen in anticipation of a test. I believe that every student has a great potential which just needs to be unleashed.
I have a patient approach with students, allowing them to have a go before offering input. Every child's learning capability is different, and so I treat them as that: an individual and base my teaching around their learning style.
I have often helped fellow students with various bits of advice on my current college course, and I feel with my knowledge of Mathmatics, I have a lot to offer. I hope to help any student get through their current studies, with a view to improving your overall maths abilities.
my teaching styles: Starting: I will effectively determine the working at level of my student by allowing them to complete an exam paper that they will likely sit. It is helpful for me and the student to see their knowledge.
How a lesson is structured really depends on the age range of the person I'm teaching, for younger children I would have a more relaxed lesson structure and for older people, I might be able to move faster with a starter, which would relate to the previous lesson and then I would get into the main topic carefully explaining each point and then we would finish off with a pleanary.
I take a pupil centric approach. I am an expert in Mathematics and as such can adapt my explanations to suit the needs of the student and enable them to obtain maximal understanding. I also reinforce lessons through exercise sheets to consolidate the students knowledge as well as identify issues in their understanding which can then be addressed the following week.
