I have had experience teaching maths and biology to GCSE students in the past. I am very patient with students and make sure that they do understand everything that is taught before the session is over. If they are not able to follow I am very flexible in terms of adapting new methods in order to help the student grasp the information.
I like to introduce topics by verbally asking questions to judge the student's understanding of the topic, as often they may be able to answer some of the mathematical questions required of them in the exam but there may not be an underlying understanding.
I am an A-level student currently attending The Norton Knatchbull School. I am currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics. I believe that maths is more than just a subject and focus on the understanding and concepts behind it which will automatically boost one's academic performance as well as being able to develop excellent problem-solving skills.
My teaching method is to build up the difficulty from what is already achievable within a specific topic until we reach a point that the student cant complete (scaffolding) and then work on why they couldn't get past the difficulty. This is easily applicable within Maths.
I start by evaluating how much you know about the topic by some review questions. Then I will go through the topic while doing the questions. Lastly I will get you to do a mini test at the end of the topic. This means that they know how to approach each question in preparation for any exams that are coming up.
I am a sixth form student and dedicate a lot of time to helping students in lower years, such as year 11's, when preparing for their GCSE's by providing support on not only effective revision methods, which I've picked up through recent experience, but also with detailed knowledge relating to the subjects.
I like to break each topic down into its simplest parts and then show the links between each part to develop a full understanding. I find that it is easier to learn if you have a solid understanding of the basics to build upon, which is often rushed in class.
I enjoy helping students build their confidence and find success, through an improved understanding of their subject, better problem solving skills and a familiarity with the question types they are likely to come across. - Which subject(s) do you teach? 11+/Kent Test, Key Stage 2/3 Maths and English. - Tell me about your qualifications. Maths is a subject people often struggle with, so I do my best to tailor teaching to the student and what they need. My teaching methodology consists of a certain structure which is the following: Re-cap of previous lesson, new concept, examples of new concept, practice questions for new concepts, advanced examples, brain teaser to finish!
