Having taught pipa over the last decade and ABRSM for over 8 years, I am a very passionate teacher which eager to share my knowledge with students of all ages that have an interest in this very old traditional Chinese instrument or wish to develop their knowledge in music theory.
I have a personal approach to every student to help them achieve their desired objectives and outcome. I have worked as the head of Teaching Methodology Department for more than ten years and know different methods of lesson structures, making our lessons interesting desirable.
As a teacher, I try to combine proper technique with enjoyable material to foster a genuine love for music and the instrument. The way I teach depends on the needs of my students, as everyone learns differently. I teach all ages and beginner to intermediate skill levels. If desired, I would be able to prepare students for examinations.
I always carefully plan the individual program for every pupil taking into account their starting point , reasons for learning and preferred learning styles. I think that planning and preparation is a key to effective teaching. I understand that it may be challenging to learn to play a musical instrument but crucially I also know how to make the process enjoyable and exciting.
I personalise all of my lessons - all structured to encourage but go at the pace of my students. I believe that everyone can learn in a fun environment and that is what I aim to achieve in my tutoring.
I teach people to play piano by-ear, meaning that I do not teach people how to read sheet music, but instead how to listen to, mirror, and harmonise with notes.
I do not have one specific lesson method as I usually adapt according to the needs of my students. I plan the lessons as we go along, in line with their respective expectations and goals. I can teach following a given book if needed, just as I can prepare more spontaneous lessons. I am also able to teach music theory if need be. I am generally a very flexible teacher.
My speciality is finding technique and repertoire that suits the individual student, helping them to develop their skills in the best way for them. This can be in any style – I teach classical, musical theatre, and rock and pop, amongst other genres.
I like to cater each of my lessons to be individual to the student in question and adapt my teaching style accordingly. Students have the option to learn at any pace they feel comfortable with. Lessons are given in the comfort and familiar surroundings of your own home in and around the North East area that's a reasonable distance from North Shields.
I hold Grade 7 ABRSM practical, meaning that I have a strong knowledge of the instrument and the theory surrounding it. I work at the pace of the student, but also acknowledge that there is a need to push students beyond what they think they are capable of in a positive manner. I'm a very relaxed tutor, and always use positive reinforcement to spark and maintain the passion within each individual.
I believe in an inclusive and adaptive approach to learning, and therefore will make small adjustments to his teaching methods to ensure that each student is fully engaged and able to improve. My students usual practice routines consist of scales, arpeggios, finger speed/strength exercises, pieces, and sight-reading. Music theory is also incorporated depending on the student’s ability.
My lessons are pupil lead meaning based on the pupils own wishes and aspirations for piano playing. For beginners, I teach through the ten fingers books to get the basics, then look at easy pieces that the pupil is interested in (such as christmas music or disney songs) before looking at grade 1 pieces.
I ensure students have a fun and relaxed time in piano lessons but I also encourage them to maximise their potential and to achieve high grades in the ABRSM exams. Most of my students work through the ABRSM Grade exams in a systematic way and I tailor my lessons to the needs of individual students.
I use a person centred teaching approach. Which means I first look at what you want from music lessons and tailor my lessons accordingly. I make sure to use a fun approach whilst ensuring we get closer and closer to your goal.
Many of my students are working towards ABRSM grades achieving excellent results, some come just to enjoy piano playing and experience music. I am patient, but result oriented, which is to make sure that students progress and enjoy their lessons.
Hello! I come from both a Classical and Popular music background with an emphasis on teaching through listening with the ears and exploring the student's sound. I've gigged and taught Jazz and Classical piano in Bangkok and London and currently have a scholarship to study Pop Piano with Andrew Hickley at Leeds College of Music.
I believe in creating an atmosphere of trust with my students. In all my years of teaching, I have found that such an atmosphere allows the student to voice out any fears or concerns they may have in the process learning their craft. I structure lessons according to the needs of each student. My teaching focusses on building strong technical skills and unlocking the creativity of the student.
In my teaching I love the individuality of each child and cater to their needs and interests. I make sure that the lessons are fun and enjoyable. I use popular music alongside the exam pieces and use tutors relevant to the child's ability and interests. I use games and give ongoing theory homeworks to aid the material learnt. I have also taught children with special needs.
