My teaching methods are based solely on resources which I have a lot of and exposure to these resources have helped myself understand and approach my exams better as I started to practice and become aware of the requirements needed to pass.
As no two students are the same, there cannot be a particular teaching methodology for all pupils. I prefer to perceive the individual's preferred way of learning and then tailor my knowledge to that, whether it be visual, auditory or kinaesthetic.
I follow the structure outlined by the SQA and break topics down into bite sized chunks. I’ll clarify the subject areas students need help with most and use day to day examples which young learners can relate to and understand. Lessons will be drawn to a close with a recap of the issues raised during the session and summary questions will encourage critical thinking and reinforce understanding.
I take into account the background and interests of learners, tailoring lessons to suit not only the level of the learner, but also make lessons fun and engaging from the start. The best learning happens when students are enjoying the material and it's relevant to today's world, with current issues and topics at the heart of the lesson.
My teaching methodology consists of first equipping my students with the skills and knowledge they need. I then aid them to perfect those new skills through consistent practice and persistence. Progressing in any subject or language is a combination of the right tolls and hard work.
My teaching method is based on filling in missing knowledge that students are unsure of and provide detailed explanations as well as summarised overviews of different aspects of the texts. I will give real-life examples and relevant context with each text studied. I specialise in Macbeth, Blood Brothers, A Christmas Carol and the Love and Relationships cluster from the AQA poetry anthology.
My methodology is simple... I listen to what the student wants, then I assess them and then tailor make a lesson plan that will meet their individual objectives. I mainly tutor Maths, English and Science at KS1&2 level or Law at A'level.
I tend work very methodically from step by step learning plans so that a clear path of progression can be outlined and seen by the student. The first thing for me to do is to establish the goals that each student wants or needs to achieve. From that point, I can start to spot weaknesses that may hinder achieving those goals, and identify areas that need to be developed in particular.
I approach these subjects very enthusiastically as I very much enjoyed my 11+ and GCSE stages myself. I apply different fun and memorable ways of learning topics that can be applied into further learning and love the feeling of being able to share my learning techniques with other young optimistic learners.
I am calm and patient and encourage students to explore so that they can reach their full potential. I use a variety of writing exercises I've learned through my MA and other writing courses. Lessons will be fun and freeing.
Before teaching any student, I like to sit with them and find out a little bit about there own personal strengths and weaknesses based on a chosen subject. I would then plan each lesson to ensure that the student feels like they have left with more knowledge and a more positive outlook on an area of weakness to the point where they no longer consider it a weakness.
My teaching method is to engage students within a range of activities - reaffirming core English concepts such as grammar and building on prior skills in order to be able to engage and understand the text/task at hand. Homework is set every lesson enabling the student to self-mark work with my assistance at the beginning of each lesson.
I do not have one teaching method. Instead, I choose to adapt my teaching around my student and what they want to learn. For example, if you needed to learn how to closely analyse a text, I would draw upon experience and set out a structured lesson on how to do so. Making sure you perform tasks which I can give feedback on.
As this is English based, if I was tutoring someone on reading, I would start by asking the student their first impressions on the book and what they think it could be about. When facing literacy problems, I would expect students to approach it in a calm manner and hope they would attempt it first by themselves and then I would help them.
I first identify where the student needs help, then I go through various examples and exercises involving the difficult subject matter. I am very engaging and interactive within my teaching and like to make the lessons fun by quizzing and giving out prizes and stickers for those of younger years. I like to get to know who I am teaching and build up a relationship so that they are comfortable.
