My name is Desta. Born in Bangkok, I'm British-Eritrean and I've lived in Thailand, Barbados, France, the Ivory Coast, Jordan, Belgium, Brazil, Turkey & The Philippines.
I believe the best way to learn a language is to experience the culture. So alongside vocabulary and grammar, I like to bring in curiosities, facts and expressions that are typically Brazilian. I think learning languages is more fun when it feels like you are talking to a friend instead of a strict professor. Moreover, I like to mold the methodology to the student's objectives and preferences.
Every lesson I teach is completely bespoke - modeled precisely to the needs of the individual student. I specialise in helping students with whatever their ability is - they will find me comprehensive, challenging and full of helpful advice. My aim is to enable students achieve their goals and to give them genuine confidence in their own abilities.
I give lessons to younger children ( under 16) for gcses or just for basic conversational skills.
I am an enthusiastic tutor who can make learning fun and relevant. I aim to make ideas clear to the student, in order that they can use them fluidly and flexibly, and to encourage genuine understanding. I enjoy teaching and believe learning starts with the learner, adapting ideas and course content to meet their interests and needs.
I believe in adapting my teaching style to the specific student and their needs. In the first meeting we will establish together what the best course of action will be and what areas need to be worked on.
Do you want to learn the language for pleasure? To travel? For business? Or for an exam? Here is how I can help. I plan the sessions based on your goals and learning needs, always trying to make it fun and diverse (informal discussions, readings, video narration, studies of music you like or a sports article, etc).
My method is based on communiction development. Firstly a topic based on daily routine is introduced in order to develop a conversation about it. Then a text related to de topic is introduced in order to work on reading skills and vacabulary and finally grammar structures is developed.
My teaching method is based on discussion, and how I can help my students become more confident in speaking English/Portuguese. Usually I try to use as little books as possible, because I believe too many books confuse students who are trying to learn languages. I usually plan my lessons before hand, and organise them related to day to day teaching.
When it comes to teaching, I start with a bare-bones approach, covering the basics of grammar, syntax, vocabulary and oral expression, so that students can get comfortably with the lessons gained and learned, before moving on to a more advanced level, in line with what is currently taught at the standard AS/A-Level in secondary schools.
Strong emphasis on Grammar and verb collocations, drilling vocabulary and communicate practicing
Presentations and summarising tasks along with essays and for portuguese, verbal/speaking lessons.
My lessons will include introduction to portuguese so that my students can receive a first feel of the language and as we develop will be more intentive. My teaching methods revolve around attention to detail and persistence. After each lesson a work sheet will be provided. I believe we learn by practising.
I am a very patient person so don't worry, you can get there! I base my classes on Live Chats; PowerPoint presentations; games; learning support via e-mail; online class discussions; simulations; if required, classes in person by the end of each level; others. I adapt the methods to the individual needs of each student.
Responsible and entertainer can create a easy learning environment, very pontual don’t worry you won’t miss a class I speak a fluent portuguese, normally I like to start a class with some reading to pull the portuguese alfabeth pronunciation.
A minha metodologia é simples: usar exercícios apropriados para cada nível, apostar na conversação, na produção de textos livres sobre assuntos que sejam do interesse da pessoa que tenho diante de mim, procurando manter o interesse da mesma. Isso é muitas vezes conseguindo aliando à componente meramente intelectual uma componente afectiva e humana.
I work with an expanded constructive method which is an associative approach trying to connect the student’s day by day life with authentic material and didactic book as reference. As the class is individual, during the class I pick up the situation that the student is in and, from there, I develop the class following the basic rules of grammar depending on the level of contact with the language.
Flexible, multi tasking skill with a strong passion of teaching. Possess good lesson planning and management skills tailored to the needs of each student. Ability to foster a strong sense of enthusiasm among non-native speakers. Comfortable working in a multilingual and multicultural setting. Familiar with modern teaching methods and techniques.
I would be a greater Tutor Because I am native, fluent to communicate Multi language and enjoy to share/Interact with others. I have no Experience on Tutoring but I have experience in Accountant/Cost Controller for Oil& Gas Companies, I studied Accounting & Finance at Polytechnic of Namibia University.
I always focus on what students already know and on their main difficulties. I can use books, videos or anything, according to preferences. Sometimes students feel sad because they don't understand something or they think they have doubts they shoudn't have.
I was born and raised in Portugal and I´m now in Bristol taking my Bsc in Biology. I teach Portuguese and I tend to shape my lessons accordingly to the student I have since every one of them is a different person and should be treated as such so that they can fully explore their potential in my lessons and in life.
Each lesson is prepared and tailored to suit what is best for every Portuguese learner. Even if you are starting from scratch, you will get all my support to be successful. My teaching methodology will use videos, conversation, writing, games, reading and homework either. The homework would consist, e.g. learning vocabulary and recording your progress.
I base my classes on conversation, listening and reading, making use of the language and its rules so that students make a good sense of it. Writing exercises are usually asked as homework since pupils hand it in next class.
when I am teaching someone I like to go through the topic first, then write down some keywords (translate them if I am teaching a language) and after that I like do some questions and some speaking if its a language lesson. I also like to write the keywords on some flashcards so its easier to remember them when it comes to having tests or exams.
My teaching method is simple, looks like a conversation between friends.
My teaching method is based in communication and conversation. That's how I've learned English and that's how I think is the best and easiest way to learn a new language at a conversational level as well as pronunciation and accent.
I learned English by the Callan Method which consists of repetition and maximum exposition to the language. I believe that implementing this to Portuguese will be the right way for you to reach the fluency 4 times faster than any other method.
Learning should always be fun. The teacher must find a way to get the students interested in what is being taught. Creating a connection between their interests and the lessons is key. Finding something that makes the lesson relevant to them.
I believe in a open, friendly environment where students get the chance to share their views on the subject without being afraid of making mistakes. Only from mistakes can one develop its skills. Visual Images to grab students attention and bring a good dynamic to the studying process are a way to memorize and understand the concepts better.
Portuguese is my native language, so I can help with conversation and pronunciation classes. I don’t have my own material for classes, but if you have it, I can help you with your tasks and practice pronunciation. I’m able to teach beginners, intermediates and advanced portuguese speakers of all ages.
