I'm a strong believer that you learn when you have fun so I try to blend humor with the topic at hand but I'm also strict in terms of self-studying and homework. I always adapt my classes to my student's needs, levels and learning goals. For me, communication is a major part of the class so at the end of each class we do a check back on what went right or wrong so we can progress next time.
My teaching method is based on discussion, and how I can help my students become more confident in speaking English/Portuguese. Usually I try to use as little books as possible, because I believe too many books confuse students who are trying to learn languages. I usually plan my lessons before hand, and organise them related to day to day teaching.
When it comes to teaching, I start with a bare-bones approach, covering the basics of grammar, syntax, vocabulary and oral expression, so that students can get comfortably with the lessons gained and learned, before moving on to a more advanced level, in line with what is currently taught at the standard AS/A-Level in secondary schools.

I taught children in the past but I am open to teaching anyone of any age who has an interest in Portuguese and is wanting to improve. My method is based on communiction development. Firstly a topic based on daily routine is introduced in order to develop a conversation about it. Then a text related to de topic is introduced in order to work on reading skills and vacabulary and finally grammar structures is developed.
I've found that children react very well when we use songs, pictures and games. Even teens and adults, it's easier for them when we use those kinds of techniques. The secret is to adjust the kind of music, images and games according to the student's age and learning ability. I believe learning should be done with the things we love the most.
